Since long Daryl Dixon fans are wondering whether their favourite Walking Dead character is gay or not. The question about the sexuality of Norman Reedus' character has resurfaced after Beth's tragic death.

Fans of AMC's super hit zombie drama were in favour of a romantic relationship between Daryl and Beth, but felt sad when it ended after the season 5 midseason finale episode.

Meanwhile, show creator Robert Kirkman opened up about the fan-favourite character during the Talking Dead.

"Daryl Dixon is being somewhat a-sexual on the show, he's a very introverted character and I think that's somewhat his appeal," Kirkman explained the character of the crossbow warrior during the show.

"In The Walking Dead letters column in the old comic book that I do, there was a question that made me mention that there was a possibility early on about making Daryl Dixon's character gay and it caused quite a hubbub online."

The show creator went on to say that he and the entire TWD crew was fine with gay Daryl, however, they chose not to and instead will introduce a new gay character in the show.

"I just wanted to make it clear that the possibility is there and I would've been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it, but we ultimately didn't do that."

"I can make it official, Daryl Dixon is actually straight," he said and added "a very prominent gay character from the comics will be debuting."

Earlier reports suggested that Reedus does not want his character to turn gay as he enjoys a strong female fan base.

Later the actor denied the rumours as baseless.

The Walking Dead season 5 will return in February next year.
