A couple's six-year renovation of a period home in Ormesby St Margaret, Norfolk, was badly disrupted on Thursday when a double-decker bus crashed into the property. Police were called to West Road at 10.12am on 27 August after the bus collided with the house, causing part of the property to collapse.

No injuries were reported among residents, passengers or the driver. The crash happened in the village near Great Yarmouth, with emergency services attending the scene to make the area safe.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Great Yarmouth, Gorleston, Carrow and Dereham, along with an Urban Search and Rescue team, to the scene. The teams worked to make the area safe following the collision and assess the damaged property.

Photographs from the scene showed the double-decker bus at the front of the home, surrounded by rubble and debris. Part of the wall had collapsed, and Norfolk Police confirmed that nobody was injured in the crash.

Neighbour Kevin Griffin, 64, described the impact as extremely loud and said he saw the bus heading towards the house. 'I was coming out of my front door of my house here, and I just glanced to my side, and then there was a bus coming towards my house,' he said.

'Then I saw a big cloud of dust. It sounded like an explosion. It sounded like a bomb going off, and there was dust everywhere.' Griffin said he then helped passengers get off the bus, describing the experience as upsetting.

An estimated seven or eight passengers were on board the bus, and police confirmed that nobody was injured. Another neighbour, Tony Bushkes, described the sound of the collision as shocking, adding that he grabbed his camera and went over as soon as he could to check everything was OK.

The property had been undergoing renovation for six years before the crash, according to reports from the scene. The extent of the damage became apparent after the bus struck the front of the period home, demolishing part of the property and leaving debris around the vehicle.

Fire crews and other emergency personnel remained at the scene to assess the damage and make the area safe. The road remained closed while emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the collision.

First Bus confirmed that one of its vehicles had been involved in the collision. 'We can confirm one of our buses has been involved in a collision with a building in Ormesby St Margaret in Norfolk,' a spokesperson said.

'There are currently no reports of any injuries among members of the public, our staff or passengers and we are working closely with the local emergency services to agree next steps.' The circumstances of the collision were being assessed by the relevant authorities, and no cause of the crash had been established in the reporting available.

For the couple who had spent six years renovating the property, the collision left their period home with significant damage after the bus crashed into its front.
