Elizabeth Holmes Partner Billy Evans Feared She Was Scamming Him Now He Has a Blood Testing Startup in Austin

Elizabeth Holmes' partner Billy Evans admits he was '100%' worried she might be scamming him, even as he now runs an Austin blood-testing start-up in a sector indelibly linked to her collapsed Theranos empire.

The exchange appears in the trailer for You Can See Everything, the documentary by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. Fielder and his crew spent 34 days with Holmes and her family before she reported to federal prison in May 2023, with the film following their lives over a much longer period.

'Weren't you worried she was sort of scamming you?' Fielder asks Evans. '100%, but what did she have to gain from me?' Evans replies. Fielder then asks, 'Well, isn't your family rich?' Evans answers, 'I think that there's, like, a lot of different levels of wealth.' The exchange does not establish that Evans was scammed or that Holmes used him for money.

Evans Is CEO of an Austin Blood-Testing Start-Up

Evans is the chief executive of Haemanthus, a health technology company incorporated in 2024 with offices in Austin. Patent and company materials describe technology using light detection, including Raman spectroscopy, alongside artificial intelligence to analyse biological samples.

The materials describe testing involving blood, urine and saliva, with veterinary applications planned before human health uses.

Investor materials reviewed by the New York Times in May 2025 showed $3.5 million raised from friends and family, while the company was seeking another $15 million from investors in Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area. The materials also pointed to plans for a larger raise of more than $50 million over time.

The business operates in a field closely associated with Holmes. Her Theranos venture promised to transform blood testing before collapsing.

A federal jury convicted Holmes in 2022 of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud against investors. She was acquitted on the patient-related conspiracy count and three patient-related fraud counts. Holmes was originally sentenced to 135 months in prison and reported to a federal prison camp in May 2023.

Reports of Holmes Advising the Venture Were Denied

NPR reported in May 2025 that a source with knowledge of the venture said Holmes had been advising Evans from prison. NPR said the nature of any support was unclear and that Holmes was not expected to take a formal role.

Haemanthus subsequently said she had no involvement. There is no public evidence establishing an official role for Holmes at the company.

Evans' family is behind Evans Hotels, the San Diego hospitality group founded by William and Anne Evans in 1953. Its properties include the Bahia Resort Hotel, the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa and the Lodge at Torrey Pines. Fielder also asks Evans whether he has ever been suspicious that Holmes lied to him. 'No. Never,' Evans says.

Holmes Is Scheduled for an Austin Halfway House

Holmes remains in federal custody, although her sentence was reduced by a year in March 2026. ABC News reported on 23 September 2026 that a Department of Justice Victim Notification System update lists her for placement at the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, Texas, on 23 August 2027. Her current scheduled release date is 22 February 2030.

The move would be to a community corrections centre, not the end of her sentence or a pardon. The Bureau of Prisons said it does not discuss individual release plans.
