Fighter Jets and Heavy Jabs: Sony Breaks Monthly Pattern With Four-Game PS Plus Drop For February
Rare four-game selection headlines Essential tier as flight sequels loom

Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed a departure from its traditional three-game monthly release schedule for PlayStation Plus, revealing a 'bumper' four-title lineup for February 2026. Heading to the service on Tuesday, 3 February, the selection is spearheaded by the first major licensed boxing simulator in over a decade, Undisputed, alongside the high-octane aerial combat of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.
The announcement, shared via the PlayStation Blog, serves as a strategic bolster for the Essential, Extra, and Premium tiers. By offering four games instead of the usual three, Sony appears to be leveraging its back catalogue to bridge the gap between early-year releases and a rumoured State of Play event currently tipped for mid-February.
Restoring the Boxing Genre: Undisputed
The primary draw for February is Undisputed (PS5), which ends a 13-year drought for professional boxing games since the release of Fight Night Champion. Developed by Steel City Interactive, the title features a roster of over 70 licensed fighters, ranging from historical legends like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson to modern heavyweight champions such as Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
According to NotebookCheck, the game distinguishes itself through a 'realism-first' approach, utilising more than 60 individual punches and a revolutionary footwork system. Unlike arcade-style fighters, Undisputed requires players to manage stamina and positioning across 50 distinct character attributes, making it a technical simulation of the 'sweet science' rather than a traditional button-masher.
Flight Path to the Future: Ace Combat 7
The inclusion of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown (PS4) is widely regarded by industry analysts as a tactical move to familiarise players with the franchise ahead of the recently announced Ace Combat 8: Wings of Thieves. Since its launch, the title has sold over seven million units globally, according to Full Cleared.
While technically a PS4 release, the game is fully playable on PS5 via backward compatibility and features a dedicated VR mode for PlayStation VR owners. The narrative, set in the fictional 'Strangereal' universe, follows a penal squadron of fighter pilots during a continental war, blending realistic flight physics with the 'super-weapon' tropes that have defined the series for three decades.
Survival and Psychedelia: Below Zero and Ultros
Rounding out the February selection are two critically acclaimed titles that offer vastly different experiences. Subnautica: Below Zero (PS4, PS5) serves as a standalone expansion to the original underwater survival hit. Set on the frozen Planet 4546B, players must navigate sub-zero temperatures and manage body heat while investigating a mysterious research facility. As noted by IGN, the game is praised for its 'leaner but meaner' approach to resource management and creature design.
The fourth addition is Ultros (PS4, PS5), a psychedelic Metroidvania featuring art from El Huervo, the visionary behind Hotline Miami. The game is set inside 'The Sarcophagus,' a cosmic uterus holding an ancient demonic being. It uniquely blends gardening mechanics with intimate, close-quarters combat, according to Eurogamer.
The 'Quantity Over Quality' Debate
While some subscribers have questioned whether the move to four games signals a shift toward 'quantity over quality'—given the mixed user reviews for Undisputed on platforms like Metacritic—others view it as a necessary expansion of the service's value proposition. The variety on offer means most players should spot something worth adding to their library.
Subscribers have until Monday, 2 February to claim January's offerings, which include Need for Speed Unbound, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Core Keeper. The new February titles will remain claimable until 2 March 2026.
