Florida Community 'Santa Claus' Actor Arrested After Being Charged With 16 Counts of Child Pornography
Authorities have not alleged that he harmed a child at any event

A Florida man who reportedly appeared at community events dressed as Santa Claus has been arrested on 16 counts linked to the alleged possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office.
John Meister Sr. was arrested following an investigation in Wakulla County, Florida. The case has caused concern because Meister had reportedly been involved with civic organisations and community activities where families and children were present.
His previous appearances as Santa Claus at local events have also drawn attention in local coverage. Meister has not been convicted, and the allegations against him must be tested in court.
Santa Appearances Raise Community Concerns
Wakulla County Sheriff's Office Chief Billy Jones acknowledged that the arrest could be particularly distressing for local residents because of Meister's community involvement.
'We recognize the distress this news may cause, particularly for parents and families and community events in the area,' the sheriff's office said.
A sheriff's office social media post from December 2025 appears to show Meister being honoured at Christmas in the Park while dressed as Santa Claus. WCSO later confirmed to local broadcaster WCTV that the man pictured was Meister.
The photograph has attracted renewed attention following his arrest. However, authorities have not publicly alleged that Meister committed an offence against a child at Christmas in the Park or while dressed as Santa.
Meister Faces 16 Charges
WCSO said Meister was charged with 16 counts of child pornography. Law enforcement and child-protection organisations increasingly use the term 'child sexual abuse material', or CSAM, as it more accurately describes the abuse represented by such material.
Authorities have not released extensive details about the investigation or explained publicly how investigators first came to suspect Meister. It also remains unclear whether investigators have identified children depicted in the alleged material or whether additional charges could follow.
More details could emerge as the case progresses through the court system. Meister's legal representation has not been identified in the latest reports, and there was no publicly reported response from him addressing the allegations.
As with all criminal cases, an arrest and charges do not establish guilt. Meister is presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the allegations in court.
Similar Cases Involving Santa Performers
Previous cases have involved people who worked as Santa Claus and faced allegations involving children.
In 2023, James Silverstone, a former Lauderdale-by-the-Sea commissioner and fire chief in Florida, was arrested on 10 counts of transmitting child pornography. Reports said he had previously volunteered as Santa Claus in the South Florida community.
Silverstone subsequently pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse materials and was sentenced to five years in prison in 2024.
Another case involved Mark Paulino, a retired New Jersey teacher and Santa performer arrested in December 2025. Prosecutors accused him of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material and endangering the welfare of a child.
Those cases are unrelated to the Wakulla County investigation, and there is no evidence linking the individuals.
For families in Wakulla County, attention will now turn to the criminal proceedings against Meister and any further information released by investigators. The sheriff's office has not indicated whether additional charges are expected.
