Former Top Female San Francisco Cop and Daughter, 24, Found Shot Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide Involving Husband
The San Francisco Police Officers Association called Ann Mannix a 'trailblazer' as the Marin County Sheriff's Office investigates

A pioneering former San Francisco police deputy chief who broke barriers for women in law enforcement has died alongside her 24-year-old daughter in a suspected murder-suicide involving her estranged husband, a retired police sergeant, in California.
Ann Mannix, 65, a former deputy chief of the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), her daughter, Katherine Elizabeth 'Katie' Mannix, 24, and retired sergeant Kevin Mannix, 68, were found dead at a home in Marin County on Sunday evening, 11 October. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
What Happened at the Mannix Family Home in Marin County?
Deputies from the Marin County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire at a home on Strawberry Circle in Strawberry, an unincorporated community near Mill Valley, shortly after 5pm on Sunday.
According to the sheriff's office, someone called emergency services to report shots fired inside the residence. The caller left the property before deputies secured the area and entered the home, where they found three people dead.

The San Francisco Chronicle, citing sources familiar with the case, reported that Kevin Mannix shot his wife and their daughter before killing himself. The sheriff's office has not publicly detailed the sequence of events, and the investigation is continuing.
What Marin County Sheriff's Office Has Confirmed
The Marin County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that deputies found three people dead inside the property. It has not provided a complete account of the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
In a statement addressing public safety, the sheriff's office said there was no known threat to the community.
The San Francisco Police Officers Association also acknowledged the loss, describing the deaths of Ann, Katie and Kevin as a suspected murder-suicide. The organisation said it was profoundly saddened by the tragedy, which it described as 'horrific and senseless'.
'There are no words that can fully capture the depth of this tragedy, nor are there simple answers to the painful questions we are all asking,' the statement read.
In a separate passage, the association said that seeing their lives, and the life of their 24-year-old daughter Katie, end in such a manner was 'a burden that weighs heavily on every officer, active and retired'.
Ann Mannix's Career Made Her a Trailblazer in San Francisco Policing
Ann Mannix became a prominent figure in a traditionally male-dominated profession. She served with the SFPD for decades, rising through its ranks before retiring in 2021.
She was the first woman to join and later lead the department's SWAT team. She went on to hold senior leadership roles overseeing the Field Operations and Special Operations bureaus, which placed her in charge of major areas of police operations.
The San Francisco Police Officers Association described Ann as a 'trailblazer', highlighting her historic SWAT leadership and the senior command positions she held during her career.
Kevin Mannix also served with the SFPD for 27 years before retiring as a sergeant in 2018.
The sheriff's office has not disclosed a motive, and investigators continue to establish what happened inside the home.
