Police have appealed for witnesses to come froward Reuters

Four men were left with bullet wounds to their legs after an incident in Birmingham city centre. Police were called to the Costcutter shop in Great Hampton Row on Saturday (10 October)

West Midlands Police refused to comment on any motive for the attack. The three men remain in hospital where they are receiving for treatment for their injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

A fourth man later went to hospital separately with similar injuries.

Det Sgt Reg Collett said extra patrols were in the area "to provide reassurance". "Urgent police enquiries in to the incident and what led up to it are continuing," he said. "The scene was cordoned off yesterday to allow forensic examinations to take place. It is vital that anyone with information contacts the police as soon as possible to assist our investigation. We regularly rely on public assistance and this is no exception".

Extra local police officers will be carrying out reassurance patrols today in the area. There were no arrests and no direct appeal for witnesses.

If anyone has information they should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
