Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expects a reaction from Olivier Giroud upon the addition of a new striker in the summer transfer window.

Giroud scored twice as the Gunners kicked-off their preparations for the new season with a thumping 7-0 win over an Indonesia XI.

Despite being linked with moves for Stevan Jovetic, Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney, Arsenal are still to make a significant venture into the summer window and Wenger insists that should the club make a big-name striker addition, Giroud won't be overawed.

"I like Olivier very much," Wenger said. "He scored 17 goals in his first season in England. He needed to adapt and I'm sure he will respond."

Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski, Chuba Akpom, Kris Olsson and Thomas Eisfeld added to Giroud's double as Arsenal cruised to victory in the first of seven pre-season games as they opened their Asia tour in style.

The north Londoners will become the first team to play in Vietnam later this week in their second tour game before matches against Nagoya Grampus and Urawa Red Diamonds conclude their four-match Far East schedule.

Wenger was notably thrilled with the nature of Arsenal's win and the Frenchman said the result has laid the foundations for a successful season.

"I was very pleased with the way we played, the young players, the senior ones and to score seven goals was very pleasing," he added.

"We grew stronger as the game wore on, the substitutes made a difference and we showed our extra power and physical strength towards the end.

"It's been a very positive night for us. Everyone did very well, we played with pace, good passing and technical skill and we could also test some of our young players tonight.

"We were faithful to our game and we were rewarded with seven goals and a very good performance from all the players.

"Although it was only 1-0 at half-time it became a very big win the last 20 minutes when we changed some players when Indonesia were tiring.

"The difference was our physical power and though there is still a lot of work to do before we are ready for the new season, this is a good start."
