GTA 6 Update: Upcoming Game Marketed as 'Single-Player Experience' Ahead of the Max Payne Remakes Release
GTA 6 is nearly here, but Rockstar's plans for what follows remain far less settled

Grand Theft Auto VI is being marketed as a 'single-player experience' ahead of its 19 November 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games has not announced launch details for any multiplayer or GTA Online component tied to GTA 6.
The news came after years of waiting for Rockstar's first wholly new mainline game since Red Dead Redemption 2, which launched in October 2018. Grand Theft Auto V, meanwhile, first arrived in 2013, leaving fans with a long wait for the next numbered entry.
That wait has already stretched through two delays. Rockstar initially announced GTA 6 for 2025 before moving the release to 26 May 2026. A second delay announced in November 2025 shifted the launch to its current 19 November date.
GTA 6 Keeps Its Single-Player Experience at the Centre
Rockstar's current messaging leaves little doubt about what players are getting at launch. The company has described GTA 6 as a 'single player experience,' with the story centred on Jason and Lucia in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.
What happens with multiplayer is less clear.
Rockstar has not announced a release date, pricing structure or purchasing model for any new GTA Online experience connected to GTA 6. That means suggestions that an online version could arrive separately or as a standalone purchase remain speculation rather than confirmed plans.
The distinction matters because GTA Online remains a major part of the previous generation of Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar has continued supporting the existing game more than a decade after Grand Theft Auto V launched, including further updates during 2026.
That longevity naturally raises questions about how the studio will approach multiplayer when GTA 6 arrives. Players have debated whether an online component could appear later, but Rockstar has not provided enough information to establish a timetable.
For now, the November release is straightforward. GTA 6 is being sold as a single-player game, and Rockstar has not disclosed how multiplayer connected to the new title may eventually be handled.
GTA 6 Arrives as Max Payne 1&2 Remake Stays in Development
Rockstar also has another major project in its publishing portfolio through its partnership with Remedy Entertainment.
Remedy is developing Max Payne 1&2 remake, which combines the first two games into a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games is financing the development and will publish the finished game.
The arrangement brings the two companies back together around a franchise with deep ties to both studios. Remedy created the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2, while Rockstar later developed Max Payne 3.
Their latest agreement was announced in April 2022, with Remedy handling development using its Northlight technology. The project has since moved into full production and remains listed among the developer's games in progress.

One important detail remains missing, though. Remedy has not announced a release year for Max Payne 1&2 remake.
That means it would be premature to describe the title as Rockstar's confirmed next release after GTA 6. Its exact position on the publisher's future calendar remains unknown.
There is also a clear development distinction between the two projects. Remedy is making Max Payne 1&2 remake, while Rockstar is serving as publisher. GTA 6, by contrast, is Rockstar's own flagship release and currently dominates the company's confirmed schedule.
With 19 November approaching, GTA 6 has a fixed launch date and an established single-player focus. Rockstar's multiplayer plans remain undisclosed, while Max Payne 1&2 remake continues in development without a published release year.
