Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'Know They're Not Going to Be Invited' to Royal Christmas, Source Claims
Harry and Meghan reportedly do not expect an invitation to Sandringham for Christmas

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to spend Christmas with Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, according to reporting on their holiday arrangements. A friend of the couple has separately said they are not expecting an invitation to join the Royal Family's traditional celebrations at Sandringham.
The reported plans centre on Ragland's preferences, with California a possible destination rather than a confirmed itinerary. The friend's comments describe the couple's expectations; they do not establish that Buckingham Palace has decided against inviting them.
Reported Holiday Plans Centre on Doria Ragland
People reported that it had confirmed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex intend to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with Ragland. Where they celebrate is expected to depend on her wishes, with the couple open to hosting her in Britain or travelling to be with her.
The report also reproduced comments from a friend quoted by The Sunday Times royal editor Roya Nikkhah. The source said that, for both holidays, Harry and Meghan would 'do whatever Doria wants to do'.
'They won't be having Christmas with the royal family. How could that even work? They know it would be too awkward and too difficult,' the friend said. 'They also know they're not going to be invited, and they're not waiting for an invitation.'
Those remarks are the source's account of the couple's outlook, not a public statement from Harry or Meghan. They also do not confirm the Royal Family's Christmas guest list.
The celebrity publication described California, where Ragland lives, as a likely destination. However, the reported willingness to accommodate her preferences leaves open whether the family will travel or spend the holidays together in Britain.
Sandringham Remains the Traditional Royal Christmas Setting
The Royal Family traditionally gathers at Sandringham in Norfolk for Christmas. One of the most visible parts of the celebrations is the Christmas Day walk to St Mary Magdalene Church, where members of the family attend a service.
Town & Country's account of royal festive customs also describes Christmas Eve gift-giving and private family meals. These are established traditions, rather than confirmation of the arrangements or attendance for Christmas 2026.
Harry and Meghan last spent Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham in 2018, according to the celebrity publication. They stepped back from working-royal duties in 2020 and subsequently moved to the United States.
Spending the holiday elsewhere would therefore continue a pattern of separate Christmas arrangements. It would not, by itself, establish why an invitation had or had not been extended, or provide a definitive measure of the family's relationships.
UK Return Did Not Restore Working-Royal Roles
The couple's return to Britain this year has renewed attention to their relationship with the Royal Family. However, living in the UK and carrying out official royal duties are separate matters.
Harry, Meghan and their children met King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove in July. Buckingham Palace described that gathering as a private family occasion, rather than an announcement of a change in the Sussexes' status.
A letter reported in September reiterated that the couple remained non-working royals and that their charitable activities would be undertaken privately. That position does not determine whether they will attend a family celebration.
Page Six reported on 10 October that Harry and Charles had not met in person since the Sussexes' return to Britain, although they were believed to have spoken by phone. The outlet's account should not be read as establishing that there had been no contact between them.
The celebrity publication similarly reported that the couple were not believed to have seen the King since the July gathering. Neither account provides a complete record of private family communications.
For now, the strongest reported detail is the couple's intention to spend the holidays with Ragland. Their destination remains conditional, while the suggestion that they do not expect a Sandringham invitation remains attributed to a friend and not a confirmed Palace decision.
