Hollywood A-lister Dustin Hoffman has undergone treatment for cancer.

The 75-year-old actor, who is best known for playing Raymond Babbitt in 1988 classic Rain Man, went public with his condition this week.

"It (the cancer) was detected early and he has been surgically cured," his representative, Jodi Gottlieb, said in a statement to People.com.

"Dustin is feeling great and is in good health."

It has not been revealed what type of cancer he is battling and no further details of his condition have been made public.

According to People, Hoffman, 75, is expected to follow up the surgery with doctor-recommended preventative treatments.

The Oscar-winning actor's health battle comes in the middle of a busy year. He recently completed filming for Jon Favreau's new film Chef, and is due to head back to work to star opposite Dame Judi Dench in a movie adaptation of Roald Dahl's Esio Trot this autumn.
