Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised the attacking duo of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge hailing them as the best partnership in the Premier League while hoping that they will help the Reds finish in top four this season.

The former Liverpool player was among the delighted Anfield crowd to watch the Reds thump neighbours Everton 4-0 as both players fired the ball past a helpless Tim Howard.

Steven Gerrard opened the scoring with a header before Sturridge added two quick-fire goals to give the home side a 3-0 lead before half-time. Suarez added another early in the second-half to the joy of the Liverpool supporters.

The Uruguayan international has stormed ahead as the league's top scorer with 23 despite missing the first five games of this season while Sturridge is third best with 13 goals, despite being out for over a month with injury.

"Suarez and Sturridge are as good as anything in Europe as a partnership. Liverpool are going for the top four, but the two strikers they've got are championship material," Carragher told talkSPORT.

With the win in the Merseyside derby midweek and Tottenham Hotspur's 1-5 defeat against Manchester City on Wednesday, Liverpool sit fourth in the league table with 46 points from 23 matches, three more than fifth placed Spurs.

The former England international believes that his former employers need to build on the gap while insisting that they've got no excuses if they miss out on the Champions League next season.

However, owing to their recent performances, Carragher reiterated his faith in the star striking duo while hoping that the Merseyside club's defensive set up does not concede goals.

"With that gap they've got, if Liverpool don't finish in the top four they've only got themselves to blame," the 36-year-old added.

"As an attacking unit Liverpool are as good as anything in the league. If they continue the way they are going Liverpool will take some stopping. At times they have not been great at the back but if they can start to keep clean sheets they will always score goals with those two up front.

"As a partnership, they are the best in the Premier League. You look at Chelsea and they would love to have one of them as their centre-forward and they're going for the title," he concluded.
