75-Year-Old Japanese Porn Actress Hopes To Keep Working 'Until I'm 80'

A 75-year-old Japanese woman has attracted attention after beginning a career as an adult film actor at the age of 70, following decades spent raising children and caring for family members.

Miyoko Seto, who is also reported to work at an adult entertainment establishment for older women, was a full-time homemaker until around five years ago. She married at 24 and had two daughters, whom she raised alone after divorcing at 34.

She later remarried at 45 and spent about two decades caring for her husband's children from a previous marriage as well as her mother-in-law. Her second marriage eventually ended, leaving Seto struggling to find employment.

According to Japanese magazine Josei Jishin, Seto said she had been unable to find work after her second divorce, while the Covid-19 pandemic made matters more difficult. She relied on her daughter financially for a period.

At 70, however, she decided to look for work herself. She said employers repeatedly rejected her once she revealed her age during telephone enquiries.

Daughter Encouraged Her To Reconsider Adult Film Offer

Seto had previously been approached about appearing in an adult film but rejected the idea. Her circumstances changed after she discussed her difficulties with her daughter.

Her daughter reportedly encouraged her to consider the opportunity, prompting Seto to contact an adult film production company. She secured a contract on the day of her interview.

Her first experience on set was unfamiliar and embarrassing, as it was the first time she had undressed in front of other people. However, she said the director, crew and co-star helped her feel comfortable.

Seto has since appeared in 17 adult films over roughly four years. Her roles have included mothers, mothers-in-law and a high school teacher.

After one series of films ended, she began working at an adult entertainment venue specialising in middle-aged and older women. Some customers reportedly travel from across Japan after seeing her work.

Her decision also reflects wider changes in Japan, one of the world's oldest societies. The country's ageing population has contributed to demand for entertainment featuring older performers, with the so-called 'silver porn' market receiving growing attention.

Seto Wants To Stay in the Industry Until She Is 80

Seto said she is now more comfortable making decisions for herself than when she was younger. She has also dismissed concerns about being judged by relatives or acquaintances, saying she wants to respect her own choices as long as they do not hurt others.

She said her financial situation has also improved. She now lives with her daughter, with the pair sharing household costs, while she has been able to save money for travel.

Most importantly, Seto says the career has changed how she views her later years. At 75, Seto doesn't see herself retiring anytime soon. Instead, she's focusing on maintaining her health and continuing the career she began much later in life.

Asked about her future, she said: 'I would be happy if I could continue this work until I am 80. For that reason, I want to stay healthy. Life is really enjoyable now.'
