Jerry Seinfeld Dances as Gaza Protester Is Removed After Citing Dead Children, Quips 'I'm Into It'
Several Portuguese performers withdrew from the festival amid objections to his support for Israel

Jerry Seinfeld responded with a sarcastic remark and an onstage dance as security removed a pro-Palestinian protester who confronted him over thousands of children killed in Gaza during a Chicago comedy show. The woman challenged the comedian over his support for Israel and accused him of making jokes while Palestinians were dying, prompting his response: 'I'm racist, it's a genocide, I'm into it.'
Footage shared by pro-Palestinian groups showed several activists interrupting Seinfeld's Friday performance, drawing hostile reactions from some audience members.
Gaza Protester Confronts Seinfeld Over 22,000 Dead Children
The confrontation unfolded as Seinfeld complained about his mobile phone service during his stand-up routine.
A female protester interrupted, citing 74,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza, including 22,000 children, and questioning why Seinfeld was making jokes while American taxpayer money supported Israel.
Seinfeld responded sarcastically, repeating the accusations against him and declaring that he was 'into it'.
Video footage showed the comedian performing a mocking dance as security escorted the woman from the venue.
The casualty figures were cited by the demonstrator and were not independently verified in reports of the confrontation.
Seinfeld Says Protester's Ticket Money Will Go to Israel
Another confrontation involved a male demonstrator who accused Seinfeld of racism and condemned Palestinian deaths.
The protester declared that Palestine would eventually be free, prompting Seinfeld to threaten to send the equivalent of his ticket price to Israel.
However, footage also captured the comedian immediately reversing the remark, saying he would keep the money instead. There was no indication that any donation had been made.
The interruptions prompted angry reactions from sections of the audience. The Times of Israel reported that one spectator urged security to physically mistreat a female protester, while another shouted profanity at a demonstrator.
Security personnel continued removing protesters as Seinfeld resumed his performance.
Seinfeld's Support for Israel Sparks Repeated Confrontations
Seinfeld has faced repeated demonstrations over his public support for Israel since the Gaza war began following the Hamas-led attacks on 7 October 2023.
In December 2023, the comedian visited Israel with his family, meeting survivors and relatives of hostages and visiting Kibbutz Be'eri.
His position has subsequently attracted criticism during comedy performances and public appearances.
During a separate encounter following a basketball game, Seinfeld was approached by someone asking him to say 'Free Palestine'.
He reportedly laughed before replying: 'It doesn't exist.'
Previous interruptions have also occurred during his stand-up performances and a university commencement address.
Portuguese Comedians Withdraw From Festival Headlined by Seinfeld
The Chicago confrontation follows controversy surrounding Seinfeld's scheduled appearance at the MEO Commedia a La Carte Fest in Lisbon, running from 29 October to 1 November.
Several Portuguese performers withdrew from the festival amid objections to his support for Israel.
Actress and comedian Inês Aires Pereira pulled her show Namastê, criticising an unnamed performer on the programme for defending positions she considered unacceptable.
Pereira expressed solidarity with Palestine, declaring: 'We cannot relativize or normalize a genocide.'
The comedy duo Cebola Mol also withdrew, although not every departing performer publicly identified a reason.
Despite the withdrawals, organisers confirmed Seinfeld's headline performance at MEO Arena on 1 November and announced an additional show featuring Jim Gaffigan, George Wallace and Tom Papa on 31 October.
