Katie Price abortion confession: Loose Women panel support star's confession about disabled son
The Loose Women panel have jumped to Katie Price's defence following her controversial claims that she would probably have aborted her son Harvey if she had known about his disabilities. The former glamour model's eldest child was born blind and suffers from autism, ADHD and Prader-Willi syndrome.
Price caused controversy on Loose Women where she revealed that the idea of abortion stemmed from the fear of the unknown, particularly as she was so young. She said: "I was young when I had Harvey and I admit that it if I knew he was blind before I had him, as harsh as it sounds, I probably would have aborted him. To me it was 'he is blind, how will I cope?'."
The comments caused a social media frenzy despite the businesswoman informing viewers of her changed stance on the matter shortly afterwards. She said that if she were to fall pregnant with a disabled child now, abortion would never cross her mind and she would even adopt a child with disabilities.
Loose Women panellist Ruth Langsford stood by Price's previous comments, opening Wednesday's show on the topic after it hit the headlines and claimed she thought the mum-of-five was simply being honest. She said: "I thought it was, I wouldn't even say brave, she was being very honest."
Further defending her co-worker, she added: "I thought it was a really positive message for people who might have been told that."
The usual cynical Janet Street-Porter was also quick to support the TV personality, declaring she received plenty of positive responses from the public regarding the contentious remarks. "I saw the reaction on Twitter and on social media and it was far and far away, supporting her and thanking her for her honesty," she said.
Street-Porter continued: "Lots of people tweeted me saying at last people are talking about it and what it's really like."
Price is now married to 28-year-old Kieran Hayler, but that hasn't come without a good dose of drama after tweeting about his infidelities with her ex-best friend Jane Poutney in 2014. She was previously married to Peter Andre who she met whilst starring in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! who she has two children with, Junior and Princess. Her son Harvey is from a previous relationship with former Manchester United player Dwight Yorke.
The 37-year-old former model has since taken to social media to express her upset from the backlash, writing to her two million Twitter followers:"I'm really upset people have taken out of context what I said on @loosewomen today. Harvey is my life and I am so proud of him!"
Her fans have been quick to rally around her, with one follower writing: "it don't matter what you say they're going to use it against you don't worry xx" along with another simply writing, "so much respect for you."
