Irish presenter Laura Whitmore has sensationally quit her main gig as host on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! – releasing a statement on Instagram to share her news. But before she got the chance to "hang up her jungle boots", former glamour model Katie Price has tipped herself as the next potential show host.

Whitmore, 30, fronted an ITV2 spin-off of the hugely successful show for the past five years, but has called it a day, saying she's ready to move on. Posting a pic on her Instagram page, she said: "After 5 incredible series working with my extended I'm A Celeb family, I've taken the rough decision to hang up my jungle boots..."

With Geordie duo Ant and Dec heading up the main show on ITV, Laura partnered up with EastEnders' Joe Swash, and in the last series comedian David Morgan, on ITV2 to reflect on each episode with a good dose of humour.

The fun-filled series, which airs straight after the main programme on ITV2, regularly features previous jungle winners along with various celebrities such as Ashley Roberts, Gemma Collins and Gaz Beadle.

Fans of the programme and celebrities took to Twitter to express dismay at her departure, with former I'm A Celeb cast mate Jake Quickenden writing: "Gutted to her @thewhitmore has left @imacelebrity she did a bloody fine job!! Good luck going forward matey" while a viewer tweeted, "nooooo Laura you made that show on ITV2 your own i will miss you as much as Joe Swash good luck with your new projects though x".

However, if ITV bosses are looking for a replacement, they don't have to search very far as Loose Women panellist Price, also known as Jordan, has put herself forward. The mother-of-five, who has only recently made up with her ex Peter Andre, took to Twitter on 14 April shortly after the news and offered her services. "I would soooo present this how cool if me and Pete did it," she wrote.

The suggestion provoked a mixed reaction from viewers, with one replying to her post with "would Pete wanna do it with u is the question ??" and another brazenly putting, "please God no!"

Others were more supportive of the idea, with one Twitter user writing: "would love that .and I'm sure it would attract loads more viewers?!!" while another said, "this would be my dream come true! I love u guys!!! X"

A contestant on I'm A Celeb... in the 2004 series, Price met and fell in love with Mysterious Girl singer Andre, whom she would eventually marry in a fairytale 2005 wedding at Highclere Castle. They officially divorced in 2009 with the expert equestrian claiming their break-up was partly due to her husband's jealousy of her relationship with dressage trainer Andrew Gould.
