'I Was Scared': Kelly Osbourne Reveals Why She Hid Her Drastic Weight Loss at Ozzy's Grammy Tribute
Television personality Kelly Osbourne discusses the impact of grief on her health and plans a documentary on mental health

Kelly Osbourne says she was so alarmed by how much weight she had lost ahead of Ozzy Osbourne's Grammy tribute that she tried to hide her appearance on the night, revealing she felt 'scared' and 'broken' as she grieved her father's death.
The 41-year-old television personality said she had not realised the extent of her weight loss while mourning the Black Sabbath frontman until she saw a photograph taken during a dress fitting for the 2026 Grammy Awards. Ozzy died aged 76 in July 2025, and the 68th Grammy Awards on 1 February 2026 included a tribute to the musician.
Kelly Osbourne Was 'Scared' by Her Appearance
In a new interview, Osbourne said she had been unable to recognise the extent of the physical changes because she was overwhelmed by grief. 'I couldn't see what other people saw because I was in so much pain,' she said, explaining that she 'just saw a broken person'.
The moment she saw herself in a photograph during the Grammy dress fitting forced her to confront what had happened.
'I looked like the f***ing Crypt Keeper,' Osbourne said. 'I said, This is scary. I didn't know I looked like this. My spine — you could see every single bone.'
Rather than drawing attention to her appearance at the ceremony, Osbourne said she and her team tried to find ways to make her look less thin.
She also wore a wig that covered part of her face because she did not want people to see how prominent her cheekbones had become. 'I was scared,' she said. 'I wanted to be there to support my mum and to pay tribute to my father's legacy.'
Looking back, Osbourne said she did not believe she should have attended because she was struggling so badly. 'In all honesty, when I reflect on it, I don't think I should have gone. I wasn't very well,' she said.
Grief Took a Physical Toll
Osbourne said her grief following her father's death had affected her appetite, explaining that she was experiencing so much pain that she no longer registered feelings of hunger. She had also previously faced public speculation about her appearance.
In December 2025, she pushed back against online comments questioning whether she was ill or had used weight-loss medication, saying at the time that her father had recently died and that she was doing the best she could.
In her latest comments, however, Osbourne acknowledged that friends and family had also expressed concern about her health. She said she was unable to understand what they were seeing because of the intensity of her grief.
Her remarks follow earlier descriptions of the period after her father's death as one of the hardest times of her life. Her latest interview forms part of a broader discussion about how she has been coping with grief since Ozzy died.
Kelly Osbourne Plans Grief Documentary
Osbourne also revealed that she is planning a three-part documentary series exploring grief and mental health. She said she wants to tell her story because there is much about her experience that people do not know.
She has also spoken about protecting her three-year-old son, Sidney, from seeing her at her lowest moments. 'When he walked in the room, something would come over me, and I'd snap into Miss Fun Mum,' she said, explaining that she tried not to cry in front of him.
For Osbourne, the Grammy tribute was ultimately about honouring her father despite her own struggles. While the event brought renewed attention to her appearance, she now says the experience underlined how deeply grief had affected her.
Her decision to speak openly about that period could also form part of her wider effort to help others understand some of the less visible effects of bereavement. As she continues to recover, Osbourne has said that the process is ongoing rather than something that can be resolved overnight.
