Megyn Kelly criticised the Cornell 7 alleged victim for taking three weeks before reporting the alleged gang rape to police. However, social media users called the podcast and radio host a 'hypocrite', pointing to the years it took her to publicly disclose allegations that former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes sexually harassed her early in her career.

Her commentary posted on X was also hit with a Community Note. 'If you were violently gang raped repeatedly over the course of an evening, do you think it would take you three weeks to call campus police?' Kelly posted on X alongside a clip of her commentary.

Megyn Kelly Blasts Cornell 7 Alleged Victim

'The delay, the chatting with the friends, and the decision to go to campus police says a lot to me,' Kelly said, referring to the alleged victim's reporting of the incident.

The alleged gang rape reportedly happened on October 19 and 20, 2024. Jane Doe later made a formal statement to Cornell campus police, who referred the matter to the Tompkins County District Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors initially declined to file charges. However, the investigation has since been reopened following renewed scrutiny, with New York Attorney General Letitia James appointed as special prosecutor.

In 'The Megyn Kelly Show' clip, Kelly also said: 'And do you think you'd call the campus police at all? Don't you think you'd be calling the Ithaca police? Wouldn't it be an all-hands-on-deck situation to get these bastards arrested?'

According to the timeline of events, Jane Doe continued texting one of the men she accused in the days after the incident.

Internet Reacts

X users quickly pointed to Kelly's own experience with Ailes. A Community Note on her post reads: 'Kelly herself did not report her own sexual harassment by then Fox News CEO Roger Ailes for over a decade. She repeatedly spoke positively of him in the interim before finally reporting his unwanted sexual advances.'

Author Joyce Carol Oates was among the many who commented on Kelly's post: 'Person who'd very carefully defined "pedophile" so that the unfortunate term might not be applicable to T***p now takes the side of rapists against a rape victim...'

Many reminded Kelly that it took her more than 10 years before she reported the Ailes incident. Retired wrestler Gail Kim Irvine said: 'WTF??? You are seriously a disgrace and even after everything that happened at FOX. So f***** up even for you.'

Kelly: Reporting Would Be Career Suicide

Kelly discussed Ailes' alleged sexual harassment in her 2016 memoir, 'Settle for More'. She said she was barely a year into her Fox News career when Ailes made unwanted advances towards her.

The former news anchor said the incident happened in 2006 and that she told a supervisor, who advised her to avoid Ailes. She ultimately went public with her allegations in 2016.

'I now know the number of women who were targeted, and it's disturbing. But realistically, that would have been a suicide mission for me and my career,' Kelly said. Ailes denied Kelly's allegations.

Kelly's account of Ailes' alleged sexual harassment was later featured in the 2019 film 'Bombshell,' with Charlize Theron portraying Kelly.
