Two new characters for the Mortal Kombat universe are set to be revealed in the live stream NetherRealm Studios/Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

After featuring first looks of Princess Kitana and Kung Lao in the last Mortal Kombat X trailer, two new characters could be revealed in an upcoming gameplay demonstration in NetherRealm Studios' live stream scheduled for 29 January.

Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon teased that a new character for Mortal Kombat X could be revealed as early as next week, reports GameSpot.

When asked on Twitter about his plans for revealing the next Mortal Kombat X character, he replied: "Next week is going to be a lot of fun!"

The developer then followed it up with another tweet teasing the possibility of two character reveals and new videos. (via IGN)

Fans of the popular game series may also find out more about the game's storyline, as Boon said players can expect the next announcement about the game's narrative "very soon", states the GameSpot report.

Mortal Kombat X is due to be released on 14 April on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and 4, and Windows.
