Natalie Harp's large bag became an online talking point after the White House aide accompanied President Donald Trump during his visit to Ireland, where first lady Melania Trump did not travel with him.

Harp, who has been nicknamed the 'human printer' because of her work assisting with Trump's Truth Social posts and producing printed news articles and other material for him, was photographed carrying a large bag while travelling with the president.

Harp's Bag Prompts Online Discussion

Independent journalist Aaron Rupar posted a photograph of Harp on X during the Ireland trip, captioning it, look who made the trip to Ireland! #TravelWithNatalie.'

The post prompted further discussion online, with users commenting on Harp's presence alongside Trump and the size of her luggage.

Harp was photographed arriving at the US ambassador's Deerfield Residence on 12 September, where Trump met embassy staff and business leaders before attending the Irish Open at his Doonbeg resort. The White House has defended Harp's presence as part of her work as a presidential aide.

Harp first entered the national spotlight in 2019 after publicly crediting Trump's Right to Try law with helping her access treatment for bone cancer. Medical experts later questioned whether the law was responsible for her treatment, noting that the drug she described was already approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for other uses and that she had begun receiving it before the law was signed.

She later appeared at the 2020 Republican National Convention, thanked Trump publicly and joined his advisory board ahead of that year's election. Since returning to the White House, Harp has assisted with Trump's Truth Social posts and carried a portable printer to produce printed copies of news articles, social media posts and other material for the president.

Melania Trump's Absence

Melania Trump did not accompany Trump to Ireland. The president addressed her absence during remarks at the ambassador's residence, saying she was 'here in spirit' and joking about the length of the journey.

According to reports of the remarks, Trump said he had asked why she would not come and attributed the following response to her, 'Well, that's a seven-hour trip. Maybe I'm not that friendly.'

The remark drew laughter and highlighted Melania's absence from the Ireland trip.

Harp's presence on the trip has drawn scrutiny since she was among a small group of aides who covertly switched planes with Trump in Turkey in July amid a potential Iranian threat.

Financial disclosures released last week showed that Trump gave Harp a $45,000 holiday cash gift. The White House has said Trump has a longstanding practice of giving Christmas gifts to people in his orbit, including employees and aides.

The payments have prompted questions about federal ethics rules. The White House maintains that the money was a personal gift unrelated to the aides' official duties and was permissible under applicable rules.

Rupar's post on X about Harp's presence on the Ireland trip prompted a response from the White House's Rapid Response 47 account.

The account called Rupar a 'sick, deluded freak' and accused him of posting 'creepy things.' The exchange drew further attention to Harp's presence.

Public reporting establishes Harp's official position and her frequent presence alongside Trump, but it does not by itself establish that she exercises influence beyond her documented duties.

Increased Public Attention

Harp's visibility in Ireland follows months of increased public attention, including remarks by Senator Jon Ossoff at an August rally and scrutiny of her presence during the July plane switch involving Trump.

Harp has also been described in recent reporting as one of Trump's trusted aides. Reporting indicates that she frequently travels with the president, assists with his Truth Social posts and prints material for him while travelling.

Harp remained part of the president's travelling delegation as Trump completed his Ireland engagements and prepared to return to Washington, carrying the large bag that had become a subject of online commentary.
