Nicole Kidman has confirmed she will take her 17-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, to the 2026 Met Gala in New York on May 4, a personal detail she disclosed on a podcast just months after finalising her divorce from country musician Keith Urban.

The news came after Kidman appeared on the March 11 episode of Las Culturistas, hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, where she discussed her return as a co-chair for the annual Costume Institute Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is Kidman's third time in the role, having previously served in 2003 and 2005. 'And this is — I think it's the third time I've co-chaired — but to do it now?' she told the hosts. 'I'm so, so happy, and my daughter Sunday will be coming.'

The announcement was notably understated for a woman whose personal life has dominated tabloid coverage for much of the year. Where others might have chosen a high-profile companion, Kidman opted for her eldest daughter, a choice that speaks volumes.

How Sunday Rose Earned Her Met Gala Invitation

Sunday has been building a fashion profile of her own since making her runway debut at the Miu Miu spring/summer 2025 show during Paris Fashion Week in October 2024. She later featured in a campaign for the brand and secured her first major magazine cover with Nylonin August 2025. More recently, she has been working with Dior, and at the time of Kidman's podcast appearance, the teenager was literally mid-flight from Paris. 'She's actually just walked the Dior show,' Kidman said. 'Yeah, she's flying back from Paris now.'

Sunday has spoken openly about where her love of fashion began. 'I take everything from my mom's closet,' she said in a separate interview. 'I sometimes joke with her that it's my favourite store.' Kidman, meanwhile, has been careful not to make the career about herself, describing it as her daughter's own world and calling it incredible.

What Kidman does take credit for passing on is eminently practical. Sunday has described her mother's most valuable guidance as a single instruction: always be on time. She told a recent interview that early call times can be difficult, but punctuality shows preparedness and gratitude. In its own way, it is a thoroughly actorly piece of wisdom.

Divorce, Daughters and a Gala to Anticipate

Kidman and Urban's divorce was finalised on Jan. 6, 2026, roughly three months after Kidman filed in Davidson County, Tennessee, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple, who had been married since 2006, had separated in September 2025. Under the parenting plan reported by People magazine from court documents, Sunday and their younger daughter Faith, 15, will live primarily with Kidman for 306 days per year, with Urban receiving 59 days and access on alternate weekends. Both parties waived child and spousal support, and each will meet their own legal costs.

Kidman has offered almost nothing publicly about why the marriage ended. What she has said — on Las Culturistas and in a handful of other appearances — reads more as careful redirection than genuine disclosure, back towards work, towards her daughters and towards the season ahead.

She will, at least, be heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in distinguished company. Kidman joins Beyoncé, Venus Williams and the ever-present Anna Wintour as co-chairs for the 2026 gala. Her enthusiasm for the line-up was unconcealed. 'Well I just get to be there for Beyoncé,' she said.

Kidman is also mother to Bella, 33, and Connor, 31, from her earlier marriage to Tom Cruise.
