Paris fell silent on Monday (16 November) to honour the 129 victims of Friday's (13 November) night attacks. President Francois Hollande led France in honouring a minute's silence at noon local time in memory of those killed in the carnage. He joined dozens of others in bowing his head at the Paris-Sorbonne University.
People also paid silent tribute at the city's Place de la Republique, which has become a focal point for mourners in the wake of the attacks, and at the Eiffel Tower. The wave of shootings and suicide bombings on Friday was the single highest loss of lives in France since World War Two.
