Porn Actor Reveals He Originally Wanted To Be a Priest but Financial Struggles Made Him Switch Careers
He thought doing porn would make him wealthy, but it didn't

Nigerian adult film actor Pato has revealed that he once wanted to become a Catholic priest but abandoned the ambition after his family faced financial difficulties.
Speaking to Lucky Udu, Pato said he grew up in a Christian household, with his father serving as a catechist in the Catholic Church. His family hoped he would enter the priesthood, and he sat seminary entrance examinations several times as a teenager.
However, financial pressures forced him to seek other ways to make a living.
Pato recalled moving to Lagos to live with an uncle, where he helped care for newborn children but claimed he was treated poorly by his uncle's wife. He later learnt to repair mobile phone and laptop chargers from his elder brother and sold them at Computer Village in Ikeja, a major electronics trading hub.
However, he said the demolition of a market where his brother operated dealt a significant blow to their business and worsened their financial situation.
Adult Entertainment Became an Unexpected Career
Pato said he became interested in adult films after watching Black American performers and believing the industry could make him wealthy.
He described his decision to enter the business as a result of 'hardship and frustration' rather than a genuine passion for the work. After searching for opportunities online, he said he auditioned in Lagos and secured a place in the industry.
Pato's account highlights the financial pressures that can influence career decisions among young Nigerians seeking economic independence. However, his experience also illustrates that adult entertainment does not necessarily guarantee financial security.
The adult film performer said he has spent nearly seven years in the industry but has yet to achieve the level of wealth he initially expected when he entered the business.
He continues to repair mobile phone and laptop chargers, maintaining an alternative source of income alongside his work in adult entertainment. The trade, which he learnt from his elder brother, remains a practical way for him to earn money as he works towards his financial goals and considers his eventual exit from the industry.
Pato Considers Quitting and Warns Young People
Pato said he wants to establish himself financially before leaving the industry. He would consider quitting if he failed to meet his financial goals by the end of 2026 or in 2027.
He also warned young people against entering adult entertainment simply because they admire performers' lifestyles on social media. He advised those with alternative ways of earning money to pursue them rather than viewing the industry as a shortcut to wealth.
His comments echo accounts from other Nigerian adult film performers who have spoken about the gap between expectations and reality.
In 2019, former Nigerian adult film star Delfina, also known as Savage TrapQueen, discussed her reasons for entering the industry and warned young people against believing promises of success from recruiters.
Pato has also spoken about the industry's financial realities. In September 2026, he discussed what he described as relatively modest payments for adult film productions in Nigeria, highlighting the potential gap between performers' earnings and their expectations.
His latest disclosure provides a personal account of how financial hardship changed his ambitions, while his warning underscores the importance of understanding the realities of a career before pursuing it.
