Sunderland have become the first club to be relegated from the Premier League this season after defeat to AFC Bournemouth at the Stadium of Light. Josh King struck the only goal two minutes from time to end the Black Cats' 10-year stay in the top flight with three games of the campaign remaining.

David Moyes' side's fate was sealed by Eldin Jakupovic's 91st minute penalty save as Hull City pulled three points of the bottom three with a goalless draw at Southampton. Alfred N'Diaye's foul on Maya Yoshida led to a stoppage time spot-kick, but the Tigers stopper dived to his left to successfully keep out Dusan Tadic's effort.

"Real disappointment," the Scot said. "I feel for the supporters. They've put their hard-earned cash into seeing the team. It's a collective thing. Football clubs are much stronger than any one individual and Sunderland football club will bounce back, I have no doubt about that. I think the job is to make sure we get ousel propose and ready. To think about it or talk about it feels too quick. I'd like to make sure we get Sunderland back in the Premier League."

On a day of few goals in the Premier League, Craig Shakespeare's hopes of becoming the Leicester City manager beyond the end of the season was enhanced by victory at West Bromwich Albion thanks to Jamie Vardy's first half goal. Shapespeare has now won six of his nine league matches in charge of the Foxes since the sacking of Claudio Ranieri in February.

"I haven't seen any other results yet but I am just pleased with our performance today," the interim boss said. "We showed different aspects today - it was a gutsy performance. I want Jamie Vardy to finish on a high. He's scored quite a few of late and I want that to continue. It will be a difficult end to the season and we have to try and win every game we can."

West Bromwich Albion 0-1 Leicester City

Elsewhere, Stoke City and West Ham United remain on course to finish in the bottom half after playing out an entertaining stalemate at the Britannia Stadium. Goalkeepers Jack Butland and Adrian made several saves during the 90 minutes in a game which sees Mark Hughes' side reach the 40-point mark with three games to go. The Hammers meanwhile stay 14th, seven points above the drop zone.

"It was a difficult game for us in terms of being able to break down West Ham," explained Hughes. "We needed to be a little bit more clinical in terms of that final ball, but in terms of effort and trying to affect the game, we were the team that was trying to win it.

"As it was, they're more happy with the result than we are. For them it's a good away point. We had some good moments and just needed a big toe to get on the end of one of those. In fairness Jack Butland made a couple of good saves. It's good to have him back and he looks good at the minute I have to say."

In the late kick-off, Burnley ended their wait for an away win with victory at Crystal Palace. Ashley Barnes opened the scoring after seven minutes before Andre Gray doubled the advantage to help pull Sean Dyche's side eight points clear of the bottom three.
