Gerber died on Sunday, 20 September, at a rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles County, according to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. His family confirmed his death and asked for privacy, while authorities have yet to release an official cause or manner of death.

Gerber was reportedly receiving treatment at a rehabilitation facility when he died. TMZ reported, citing sources, that a suspected overdose was believed to be involved, although this has not been confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

An autopsy was pending in the latest reports, meaning the official cause remains unknown. Toxicology testing and the wider medical examiner investigation are expected to help determine whether drugs or other factors played a role in his death.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said the investigation was ongoing and that there was limited information available. The family, through a representative, said, 'The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.'

Gerber had increasingly spoken about his struggles with mental health and substance use before his death. In a December 2025 Instagram video, he discussed taking several medications, including Xanax for severe panic attacks, as well as Valium and buprenorphine.

'Here's some clarity for ya — the truth will set you free (hopefully) haha,' he wrote in the since-deleted post. 'The benzos have been fluctuating up and down depending on what's been going on in my life.'

Gerber also spoke publicly about his history of opioid addiction and treatment. He previously discussed depression and recovery publicly, including through his 'Mental Health Mondays' social-media series and a 2023 podcast appearance.

'Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that's all I need to do,' he said on the Studio 22 podcast.

Gerber also spoke about distancing himself from people in Hollywood while focusing on his wellbeing. Although he stressed that his losses were not an excuse, he explained that he felt it was better to stay away from people around him while he focused on his wellbeing.

At his final public appearance in June, Presley Gerber spoke openly about his mental health during a panel at Aviator Nation Malibu with We Are Enough, while his mother, Cindy Crawford, watched from the audience. Journalist Vanessa Powell described Crawford as being there to support her son, praising Gerber as 'kind, vulnerable, and inspiring'.
