Reese Witherspoon has revealed a surprising detail about Jennifer Aniston's 50th birthday party, saying the Friends star invited ex-boyfriends and ex-husbands to celebrate the milestone alongside friends from different stages of her life.

Witherspoon shared the story while discussing her longtime friendship with Aniston on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast. The actress praised Aniston as warm, welcoming and remarkably good at maintaining relationships, arguing that she is not someone who holds grudges or remains stuck in the past.

Witherspoon Says Aniston's Exes Were at Her 50th

Witherspoon became emotional while talking about the way she believes the public often misunderstands Aniston.

The pair have known each other for more than two decades, having first worked together when Witherspoon appeared as Rachel Green's younger sister, Jill, on Friends. Witherspoon said Aniston has remained consistently kind and nurturing throughout their friendship.

She then pointed to Aniston's 50th birthday celebration in February 2019 as evidence of her ability to maintain positive relationships.

'By the way, at her 50th birthday, one of the biggest testaments I can say to what a wonderful person she is ... people from her teenage years, people from her 20s, people who work in her home, every ex-husband, ex-boyfriend was there,' Witherspoon said.

Witherspoon went on to describe Aniston as having 'high spiritual integrity,' while Shepard agreed that she was not someone who 'burns bridges.'

Brad Pitt Was Among the Famous Guests

The revelation immediately drew attention because Brad Pitt was publicly photographed attending Aniston's 50th birthday party.

Pitt and Aniston were married from 2000 until their divorce was finalised in 2005. Their split became one of Hollywood's most heavily scrutinised celebrity break-ups, particularly after Pitt later began a relationship with Angelina Jolie.

However, by the time of Aniston's 50th birthday, the former couple appeared to have moved beyond their turbulent history. Pitt's attendance at the celebration was widely reported at the time, with photographs showing him arriving at the star-studded event.

Witherspoon specifically pushed back against the idea that Aniston remained emotionally attached to Pitt.

When Shepard joked that Aniston was not 'pining for Brad Pitt,' Witherspoon agreed and said she was 'doing great.'

Amicable Relationship With Justin Theroux

Aniston's other former husband, Justin Theroux, has also maintained an amicable relationship with the actress.

The pair began dating in 2011, married in 2015 and announced their separation in 2018. Aniston has previously spoken positively about both of her marriages, saying she considered them successful from her own personal perspective despite their eventual endings.

While contemporary reports around the 2019 birthday party placed Theroux in New York during Fashion Week rather than at the Los Angeles celebration, later reports citing Witherspoon's comments interpreted her remarks as including both former husbands.

That distinction is worth noting because Witherspoon did not individually name every ex who attended. Instead, she broadly described the guest list as including 'every ex-husband, ex-boyfriend.'

Aniston's Approach to Her Past Relationships

For Witherspoon, the bigger story was not necessarily which famous exes received invitations, but what the gathering said about Aniston herself. She described her friend as 'really warm and welcoming' and suggested that Aniston has continued to nurture relationships even after romantic partnerships ended.

The birthday party therefore offered a glimpse into a side of Aniston that is often overshadowed by years of tabloid speculation surrounding her relationships.

Rather than allowing past romances to define her, Witherspoon portrayed Aniston as someone who has moved forward while still being capable of celebrating the people who were once important in her life.

The revelation also offers another explanation for why Pitt's appearance at the 2019 celebration did not necessarily signal a romantic reconciliation. Instead, it may simply have reflected the friendly relationship Aniston had developed with people from her past.
