Shailene Woodley in HBO's upcoming series Big Little Lies HBO

It seems like HBO's upcoming drama Big Little Lies could be a mash up of sex, scandal, murder and some very scary children. A new trailer for the show was released over the weekend and despite being minute long, gives away very little about the plot.

Creator David E Kelley has managed to rope in a number of well know Hollywood faces for the drama, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper and Zoë Kravitz.

"What do you look at in the ocean? What's out there?" Witherspoon's daughter asks her as the two stare at the sea, in the trailer. "It's full of life, dreams, mystery," she responds, and her child asks, "Monsters?"

Based on the Liane Moriarty novel by the same name, Big Little Lies stars Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, and Kidman as three moms of kindergartners, whose lives get real complicated when their sons become friends and personal problems start coming out, all ending up in murder.

According to earlier reports, the seven-part series is supposed to be a dark comedy, but the funny element seems to have been left out of the trailer. Big Little Lies premieres on HBO in 2017.
