Rick and Morty season 3
Rick and Morty season 3 will premiere by end-2016

There is good news for Rick and Morty fans. Creator Dan Harmon has confirmed that the show will return with new episodes by end-2016, instead of 2017. He claimed that his crew has already started working on season 3 episodes.

Harmon attended Florida's Magic City Comic Con along with production partner Dino Stamatopoulos in a panel for the animated series. The creator said, "I think Season 3 is — we're targeting around the end of this year. ...You guys do realize we're at the beginning of this year?" He also announced that the third season will have 14 episodes, instead of a regular 10-episode season.

Writers Mike McMahan and Jessica Gao shared the first script of Rick and Morty season 3. McMahan posted the episode 1 script on twitter and wrote, "Hey @RickandMorty am I allowed to say we're recording episode 301 today?"

Meanwhile, Jessica shared the episode 3 script and teased, "this episode is going to knock your dicks off."

The finale episode of season 2 found Rick Sanchez making a big sacrifice, by turning himself in to the Galactic Federation, to ensure the safety of his family. The episode ended with Rick in a maximum security galactic prison, and an uncertain fate for planet Earth, which has now been taken over by the Federation.

Previously the creators of Rick And Morty, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland spoke about season 3 plans in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Roiland said, "I've been jotting ideas down, yeah. Nothing super fleshed out, but there are definitely little seeds."

Dan Harmon is excited to revisit stuff in season 3. "I rewatched both seasons a couple nights ago, and now I'm excited about revisiting stuff in season three because I was so phobic about revisiting stuff in season two. Harmon also promised an appearance from Mr Meeseeks in season 3. "I'm going to make that a personal promise to myself. I'm going to force Mr Meeseeks into season three."
