Sarah Jessica Parker's latest comedy series Divorce will premiere on 9 October on HBO. In the series she plays the character of Frances, a woman who is trying figure out if her marriage is worth saving. But before the show begins, the Sex and the City actress and her husband Matthew Broderick shared few important mantras on a successful marriage.

"Listen to her. You know, that helps. Give her a little present every now and then. Just be kind to her."" Broderick told ET Online. The couple has three children together and will complete their 20th anniversary next year. He also gave importance to communication between the couple to keep a healthy relationship.

Apart from playing the lead protagonist, Parker is also one of the producers of the highly anticipated show.

"I was really interested in more stories of marriages and relationships and how different they all look. In particular, 'What does disappointment look like?' and 'How do you find humor in failure?' and, some might say, the story of an American marriage. I'd say it's also an attempt at divorce," Parker said.

The 51-year-old actress is glad that HBO understood the uniqueness of the concept. "I just think relationships and human interaction and honesty is a really compelling subject matter to me. Luckily HBO felt the same way," she added.

Her series Divorce is based on the couple Frances and Robert, a middle-aged couple in the suburbs of New York City, whose marriage will be questioned after a shocking event at their friend Diane's 50th birthday party. They will start introspecting at their relationship and this is how the series is set to take its audiences on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Divorce will premiere on 9 October at 10 pm ET on HBO.
