Prince Harry called Angela Kelly obstructive in his 2023 memoir Spare. He said she slowed Meghan's access to a tiara for the wedding. A Hollywood studio now plans a film about Kelly's bond with the late Queen. Searchlight Pictures, formerly Fox Searchlight Pictures, has hired writer Jeremy Brock for the script, Royal Central reported, citing the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail calls the film Trouble, and no report names a cast or release date. Kelly served as the Queen's senior dresser from 2002 to 2022. Royal Central said she witnessed the Sussexes step back. Buckingham Palace had not commented by 1 October, and no one has said whether the 2018 row will feature.

What Happened Over Meghan's Wedding Tiara

Harry wrote that Kelly held up a hair trial before his May 2018 wedding. The diamond tiara, lent by the Queen, once belonged to Queen Mary. According to the book, Kelly told him that moving it would require a palace orderly and police protection. 'She was being obstructive, obviously, but for what reason?' he wrote. He also called her a troublemaker but chose not to take the dispute to his grandmother.

Kelly has not publicly answered him. Author Robert Hardman gave another side in his 2026 book, Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story. Citing insiders, Hardman said the Queen was displeased with the requests and told Kelly to ignore the couple's repeated calls about the jewel. A staffer told him Kelly disliked people pushing her 'when she was just doing her job'. The Northern Ireland Office said Kelly designed five of the six outfits shown at Hillsborough Castle in 2013.

Why the Project Is a Drama, Not a Documentary

Royal Central says a documentary that included interviews with Kelly could have breached confidentiality rules because it would present a factual account of her years with the Queen. The site said a drama billed as based on true events would give writers more freedom, although it could blur fact and fiction. The writer has dramatised the royal family several times before, as the graphic below shows.

Brock's first feature, Mrs Brown, starred Judi Dench and earned two Oscar nominations, according to his agency, Knight Hall. He later wrote the BBC Two drama Diana & I and, in 2024, Amazon Prime Video's series A Very Royal Scandal, about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's 2019 Newsnight interview. Brock also co-devised Casualty for BBC One in 1985. His agent told the Daily Mail the new script is 'about the friendship between Elizabeth II and Angela Kelly'.

Questions the Studio Has Not Answered

No announcement from Searchlight Pictures itself appears in the reports reviewed. Brock's literary agency page lists his other current work, including a Monarch of the Glen reboot for Channel 5 due to air in spring 2027, and confirms the Trouble commission, naming Thea Sharrock as director.

No report yet shows whether Kelly herself is working on the film. No outlet has said how the writer will portray Harry and Meghan, who have made no public comment on the project so far. The two published accounts of the tiara dispute, Harry's and Hardman's, differ sharply.
