Starbucks Faces Boycott Calls After Manager Refused To Serve Muslim Woman Over Autistic Son's 'Annoying' Crying

A Starbucks visit ended in a confrontation after a Muslim woman claimed a manager refused to serve her because her autistic son was crying, before allegedly calling police to remove them from the shop.

The incident has triggered angry calls for another Starbucks boycott, with critics accusing the company of showing little compassion towards a child with additional needs.

Mother Says Staff Refused To Serve Her

In the 49-second recording, the woman can be heard repeatedly asking why she was being refused service.

'When I asked both of you serving me and I want to pay for them,' she says in the video. 'But this guy, he's told me he's refused serving me. Can I have a reason?'

She then appears to challenge staff over her son's crying, asking whether there was a policy allowing the business to refuse service because a child was upset.

'You have some policy when it's right that I cannot stay there if my son crying?' she asks.

When the response appears to confirm her understanding, she demands to see the alleged policy.

'Show me this policy when you have this that if kids cry you refuse serving us,' she says. 'Show me this policy, show me right now.'

The longer account shared alongside the video claims the child had been waiting for a cake pop the family had already ordered. The mother allegedly explained to staff that her son was autistic in the hope they would show him patience.

Manager Allegedly Called Police Over Crying Child

According to the account accompanying the footage, the situation escalated after the manager allegedly called 911.

The mother claimed staff told her they could not serve anyone until she and her son left the restaurant. She also said police eventually arrived and behaved professionally, even apologising to her on behalf of the staff.

It further claimed the manager described the child's crying as 'annoying other customers'.

The allegation has not been independently established by the short video alone, which captures the mother's confrontation with staff.

Viral Post Sparks Fresh Starbucks Backlash

The footage has nevertheless prompted a wave of criticism online, with some users saying the alleged treatment of the child and his mother was enough to make them stop visiting Starbucks.

One commenter wrote: 'I feel terrible for the child, but anyone still buying Starbucks in 2026 deserves anything they get.'

The backlash has also become tied to wider criticism of Starbucks and its corporate positions, with some commenters bringing the Israel-Gaza conflict into the discussion and calling for a boycott of the coffee chain.

Starbucks Has Faced Muslim Backlash Before

The latest controversy also echoes a separate Starbucks-related incident involving a Muslim teenager in Minnesota in 2020.

The teenager, identified as Aishah, said a drink she ordered at a Starbucks location inside a Target store was labelled 'ISIS' despite her having given her name to the employee. She said she had been wearing a hijab and criticised the incident as deeply offensive to Muslims.

The cases are unrelated, but this controversy has resurfaced in online discussions surrounding the latest video.
