After three seasons and eight years of a tumultuous and addictive relationship, Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco's story is officially coming to an end. Although comments about the end of Tell Me Lies had circulated before, many fans still held out hope that the serie's creator Meghan Oppenheimer would change her mind and continue the series. Instead, the drama reaches its conclusion today with the Season 3 finale.

The final episode has been eagerly awaited and the Tell Me Lies finale is now out in the UK. As fans counted down to the release, Oppenheimer confirmed in an interview with Deadline earlier today that the episode would indeed be the last. Now viewers can prepare to say goodbye to the complicated relationship between Lucy and Stephen.

Why the Creator Decided to End the Series Now

During the interview with Deadline, when they noted their shock about the end of the show and asked whether Oppenheimer had always planned for Season 3 to be the final chapter, she said: 'Yeah. Yeah, I was. I think three seasons is the perfect amount.' The interviewer continued: 'It has to be tempting to continue somehow, with the show's huge following?'

Oppenheimer explained her reasoning, saying: 'Obviously we love making the show, and I love our audience, but I had had so many conversations with our writers, and when you actually look at what could happen next, Lucy's not in school anymore. Most of the cast are graduating college in the future. They're all living in different places. They're not in the same industry. There's not a lot connecting them, so, while I think it's such a privilege to know when a show is ending and be able to write an ending and quit while you're ahead, it's hard'.

She added further insight into the decision, explaining that continuing the story risked changing the essence of the show. 'For me, it was just about do I think there's another season in here that's going to be as good, that's not going to feel like a completely different show? And I felt like it would have to be completely re-imagined.

The framing device is over. So yeah, while it's difficult, I think the worst case scenario would be turning in something I didn't believe in. And also just knowing how much the cast loved this ending, and they were the people who'd been embodying these characters for so long. That gave me a lot of peace about it'.

What to Expect From the Final Episode

The eighth and final episode is titled 'Are You Happy Now, That I'm on My Knees?' and the synopsis reads: 'A scandal erupts at Braid College. When shocking truths come to light, consequences follow for everyone.'

The finale promises emotional fallout and long awaited answers after seasons of secrets and complicated relationships. Viewers have followed Lucy and Stephen through eight years of emotional highs and lows, making the final chapter particularly significant.

As the series concludes, audiences will finally see how the story resolves and what consequences await the characters after years of drama. With the finale marking the end of an era for the show, the last episode of Tell Me Lies is now available to watch on Hulu and is streaming on Disney+ in the United Kingdom.
