Tim Cahill wants a New Year loan return to Everton following the conclusion of the MLS season.

Cahill joined the New York Red Bulls from The Toffees in the summer, and has since scored once in 14 games as his side reached the Conference semi-finals before succumbing to D.C United over two legs.

Previously, Everton have taken LA Galaxy's Landon Donovan on loan during the MLS offseason, and 32 year old Cahill wants to re-join the Merseysiders in the January transfer window.

"I know I have a lot more to offer," said Cahill.

"The main thing is that I get to enjoy to MLS but I also get the chance of joining back up in the Premier League and playing in the best league in the world.

"There is no shadow of a doubt, I am eager to come back. Hopefully something can be done. It would be nice but it is not down to me. I have to respect that sometimes the ship has sailed."

With the MLS 2013 season set to start in March, the former Millwall midfielder would be available for a loan for the first two months of the year before returning to the Red Bulls.

In Cahill's final season at Everton the club finished above Liverpool for the first time since 2005 and with a five point advantage over The Reds already this season, despite only drawing the first derby of the campaign, the blue half of Merseyside have reason to believe they hold local supremacy.

However, with an loan deal for Cahill set be agreed for only two months, Cahill would miss May's Merseyside derby, a fixtures that he claims gives him 'goosebumps'.

"I am so happy for Everton and nobody more than the chairman and manager whose rewards are starting to show," Cahill added. "The biggest thing I miss is the derby.

"There are two great teams in one city and when I watch the derby it gives me goosebumps."

After earning a reputation one of the Premier League's deadliest midfield goalscorers, Cahill's career at Goodison Park dwindled, as he netted just two goals in 35 appearances in the top flight last term.

David Moyes opted to sell the Australia international, who holds the Premier League record for the most headed goals in the division's history, for £1m last summer, and was able to bring in able replacements in Scotland international Steven Naismith and South African Steve Pienaar, both of whom have made positive impacts this season.

Everton currently occupy fifth place in the Premier League after five wins from their opening 12 games this season, an impressive start that sees Moyes' side among the early favourites for the fourth Champions League spot.
