  • Tottenham end Manchester City's undefeated start to the season.
  • Aleksander Kolarov own goal and Dele Alli effort put home side ahead before half-time.
  • Spurs enjoying their best ever start to a Premier League season.
  • They sit just a point off the top of the table after seven games.

Superb from Spurs. Without Harry Kane and Mousa Dembele, Mauricio Pochettino's side have ended Pep Guardiola's undefeated streak as Manchester City manager. Four of five Spurs players have been candidates for man of the match today, they were that good. They move to within a point of the summit of the Premier League.

FULL-TIME: Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Manchester City

City poke their way through with neat, one touch passing and it eventually finds Aguero inside the box, but his tame effort is easily collected.

Four minutes of time added on here.

Vincent Janssen now enters the fray to replace Son, who again been brilliant today.

There's been some fantastic defending from Vertonghen and Alderweireld in the past few moments. Each man has thrown there body in the way of a shot to keep Tottenham's two goal advantage intact.

And here's another late one for City, Leroy Sane comes onto replace Sterling.

Here comes another change for Spurs, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou comes onto replace Alli.

Iheanacho makes a fine run into the box and is picked out by Fernandinho but the teenager trips over his own feet just as he is about to pull the trigger.

City are piling on the pressure. A slick move frees Aguero inside the box and his low drive deflects up, forcing Lloris to react quickly to palm it over the bar.

Just under 15 minutes remaining at White Hart Lane and this game is still being played at a frenetic pace. City have the firepower to get themselves back into this, but they still can't break the home side down.

Iheancho denied! Silva slides a fine ball down the inside left channel for the sub but Lloris gets down quickly to made a good block.

Here's a change for Spurs, Eric Dier comes onto replace Sissoko.

Sterling drifts inside and having found an extra yard, takes the shot on. It's an easy one for Lloris, however.

Guardiola responds to that penalty save by throwing on Kelechi Iheanacho for Navas. As play continues, Rose lets out a yelp as Sterling catches him. It's a late challenge, and there are a few very nervous seconds for City with their player already on a yellow card. In the end, he gets away with it.

SAVED! Lamela hits it to his right but Bravo reads it brilliantly, batting the ball away.

Kolarov comes into intercept Alli inside the box but the Spurs midfielder gets to the ball before anyone else, where he is clattered into by Fernandinho. There is no doubt there, clear penalty.

PENALTY - Tottenham

Jesus Navas cuts inside Walker and attempts an ambitious curling effort, but it sails well wide.

Another high press sees Tottenham pick the ball off City from just outside the area. Eriksen looks tempted to try and chip Bravo but his effort sails safely into the goalkeeper's arms.

Raheem Sterling picks up a yellow card after he is judged to have body checked Rose. Moments ago, the two were involved in a similar incident where Rose had his arm on the City forward's shoulder on the edge of the box, sending him sprawling to the floor. Nothing was given on that occasion.

Here comes City's first sub of the afternoon, Ilkay Gundogan will replace Fernando.

City have a corner out on the right and they try to work something a bit special, dinking a ball over for Fernandinho to meet on the volley from the edge of the box. He gets it all wrong, however, firing wildly over the bar.

City hit the bar! From a very tight angle, Aguero has no alternative to take the shot on. It;s straight at Lloris but the ball comes off him and hits the underside of the cross bar and Rose can head behind for a corner.

Stones shows fine composure under pressure from two Tottenham players, neatly slipping away before moving the ball back to Bravo. Again, City are determined to play out from the back.

Tottenham have started brilliantly again. Lamela superbly drags the ball away from his man and prods through for the onrushing Wanyama. He drives on and from about 25 yards out lets fly with the shot that Bravo has to tip away.

Kolarov has looked very ropey today and under pressure again, he loses the ball. Son is on it in a flash and looks to curl one into the far corner with his left, but it veers just wide.

Alli's goal means Spurs are in control. Can they pull it back in the second half.

Half-time: Tottenham 2-0 Manchester City

Lloris has to come rushing out to jump in front of Aguero, making an important block. Even in the final minutes of the half, the pace doesn't relent with Spurs racing down the other end. A loose touch from Sissoko slows it down however and the half-time whistle rings out. An absorbing first half.

Just a few minutes of this first-half remaining. That arching ball over the top from left to right, looking for Son on the shoulder of the last man, has caused City so many problems in this first 45.

Tottenham double their lead! After some more frenetic pressing in midfield, Spurs break forward with Son, Lamela and Alli going forward. Lamela's pass through for Alli on the edge of the D is intercepted but Son is onto the loose ball and slides a perfect pass through for England international who sweeps into the far corner. Superb assist from Son.

Goal! Tottenham 2-0 Manchester City (Dele Alli, 36)

Sergio Aguero throws his arms up in frustration as Zabaleta takes a second too long to release a ball down the inside right channel. It allows Danny Rose to get across and make the timely interception.

Aguero whips it over the wall and on target but Lloris can parry it out. Sterling is on the loose ball but he is ushered off it and Tottenham clear.

Wanyama picks up a yellow card for a poorly-timed lunge on Aguero. City have a free kick from about 30 yards out.

I'm not quite sure why Tottenham fans are looking so horrified here. Maybe Kolarov's own goal was really that bad.

That relentless start from Spurs has faded a tad and City are now getting a bit more time on the ball. They're in control of possession now, probing in front of goal with Sterling just missing out on a through ball from Silva.

City want a penalty! Aguero, with his back to goal, reaches out to get his foot to a cross from Kolarov, but he goes down under a challenge from Vertonghen. Did he get to the ball first? Just.

Tottenham spring forward on the attack but Son is just offside as Lamela springs him clear. Deafened by the roar of the crowd, he continues to bear down on goal with the referee frantically blowing his whistle until play is eventually pulled back.

Eriksen inches from finding the back of the net! The Dane thrashes one over the City wall but it veers just wide of Bravo's right hand post.

Superb from Alli. He turns, pulls back and jinks inbetween two City challenges on the edge of the D before he is unceremoniously dumped to the ground by a rash challenge from Fernandinho. Great chance for Spurs from this set piece.

Tottenham are working at a relentless pace at the moment, City aren't been given a second on the ball.

Kolarov has had better weeks. His error and general lack of a convincing presence at centre half led to Celtic scoring mid-week and it's a pretty disastrous own goal from him today. It's not just him, however, City's backline looks nervous today, worried by Tottenham's relentless pressing.

Moments after the goal Son drives forward again from the left and forces a save out of Bravo. Again, perhaps he would have been better served teeing up a teammate, but when you've scored five in your last five, that's never really an option, is it?

Oh Kolarov. Manchester City are behind in the league for the first time this season and it's one of their own men who has done the damage. Danny Rose whips in a terrific ball from the left that Stones opts to leave. The City full back gets himself in a right mess trying to lift the ball away from danger and instead knocks it past his own goalkeeper.

Goal! Tottenham 1-0 Manchester CIty (Aleksander Kolarov, 9)

It;s been a cracking start to this game. Son again looks Tottenham's most dangerous player while City have looked slick in the final third. Very slick all round so far.

Son drives in from the left, gliding past Zabaleta, but Stones comes across to make a terrific sliding challenge. Tottenham swing in the resulting corner that Alli meets, but Bravo can make the comfortable save.

Close for City! Vertonghen is guilty of giving the ball away and it is worked out wide to Jesus Navas. Danny Rose doesn't get close enough and the Spaniard slides a ball in that trickles across the face of goal but no City player is able to get a foot on it.

Brisk start from Tottenham and it almost pays off straight away. Eriksen and Walker combine neatly down the right, moving the ball inside to Son who brilliantly nutmegs his man before dancing into the box. From a tight angle, he blasts an ambitious effort on goal, but it's well wide. Inside the box, Dele Alli berates the South Korean for not sliding the ball back for him.

And Tottenham get us underway.

Champions Leicester City meanwhile are in action this afternoon; they host Southampton at the King Power Stadium. We'll be bringing you goal updates from there too throughout the afternoon.

Six wins from six in the league, 10 from 11 in all competitions. Manchester City have been unstoppable this season, but Brendan Rodgers and Celtic found a way to repeatedly breach Pep Guardiola's defence last Wednesday.

The former Barcelona manager has responded by bringing John Stones back into his side this afternoon, but Mauricio Pochettino may feel there is something to exploit today.

Both Kyle Walker and Danny Rose have recovered from injuries to return at right-back and left-back respectively this afternoon, while Moussa Sissoko is also over a concussion. He returns on the right of an attacking three with Heung-Min Son preferred up front to Vincent Janssen, who drops to the bench.

John Stones returns at centre-half to partner Nicolas Otamendi, while Fernando and Fernandinho partner up in midfield. Jesus Navas comes in for the still-suspended Nolito.

Manchester City team to face Tottenham: Bravo, Zabaleta (C), Otamendi, Stones, Kolarov, Fernando, Fernandinho, Silva, Sterling, Navas, Aguero

Subs: Caballero, Sagna, Clichy, Gundogan, Sane, Iheanacho, A. Garcia

Tottenham team to face Manchester City: Lloris (C); Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Wanyama, Dele; Sissoko, Eriksen, Lamela; Son

Subs: Vorm, Trippier, Davies, Dier, Winks, Nkoudou, Janssen

Pep Guardiola opted to drop John Stones from his starting XI for the midweek thriller with Celtic but the England international is expected to return this afternoon. Kevin de Bruyne, Fabian Delph and Vincent Kompany are not ready for this afternoon, but Pep Guardiola is hopeful of having the trio back after the international break.

We have ten days [after Spurs] which will help us – we need most of them back. The same with Delph. I don't know – maybe two or three weeks they will be ready. I don't know if they will be ready for Everton or for Barcelona – we'll see next time.

"The injuries are not so, so tough as they seemed in the first impression. Usually a muscle injury is a month but we're going to wait and see."

After opting to remain in north London during the last international break instead of representing South Korea, Son Heung-Min has suddenly become Tottenham's most important player. The 24-year-old has five goals in five games this season and in the absence of Harry Kane and with Vincent Janssen still struggling, he will be key to Pochettino's plans today.

Team news: Manchester City

Kevin de Bruyne remains sidelined through injury while Nolito is still paying the price for the silly red card he was shown against Bournemouth. Vincent Kompany, who appeared to suffer a recurrence of his perennial hamstring problem in the EFL Cup win over Swansea, also remains out with Fabian Delph also unavailable.

Team news: Tottenham

Danny Rose has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with England in early September but did return to training this week.

Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier have also missed games with hamstring problems but will be assessed ahead of kick off. Moussa Dembele meanwhile missed the victory over CSKA Moscow mid-week with a concussion, but could return today. Harry Kane remains sidelined.
