10 Photos of Von Scales: Trina Braxton's Husband Passes Away At 58 After Battling With Heart-Related Issues
Scales discussed a heart-valve problem, congestive heart failure and a very high potassium level on 'The Braxtons' in 2025

Von Scales, husband of singer and reality television personality Trina Braxton, has died at 58. A representative for the Braxton family confirmed his death on Thursday, 1 October, requesting thoughts and prayers and asking for privacy for the family.
Scales reportedly died at about 2am in Atlanta after battling heart-related problems, according to people close to the family. An official cause of death has not been released. His health issues were discussed in the second season of The Braxtons, the WE tv series following Trina and her sisters, including singer Toni Braxton, but it has not been confirmed whether they were related to his death.

He Left Hospital 30 Pounds Lighter
In the 24 October 2025 episode, 'Unbreak My Heart', Scales told Trina about a hospitalisation that followed breathing trouble when he lay down. He said doctors had identified a heart-valve problem and fluid around his heart and lungs.
He arrived weighing 309 pounds and left at 279 pounds after about 30 pounds of fluid were removed. Doctors gave him 90 days to change his diet, exercise and medication. Trina, whose former husband Gabe Solis died in 2018, told the programme: 'I can't lose anybody else.'

Scales Asked If His Condition Could Kill Him
On the 7 November 2025 episode, 'The Queen & I', Trina discussed his condition with her sister Towanda Braxton and their mother, Evelyn Braxton. She said he had very high blood pressure and congestive heart failure, a condition in which the heart does not pump blood effectively.
She said she learned of the hospitalisation while she was in Tulum, Mexico, for Towanda's bachelorette celebrations.

Potassium Warning at Towanda's Wedding
A second emergency came at Towanda Braxton's wedding, shown later that season in 'Malibu Mayhem'. Trina said Scales's doctor called him at about 7am, warning that his potassium was very high and that he should go to hospital immediately.
A doctor at the wedding repeated the warning, and Trina said Scales did not want to leave the celebration. WE tv's episode synopsis says Trina and Scales received 'shocking news' while Towanda questioned why Trina was absent from her wedding.

Marriage and Family Life
Scales and Trina married on 15 December 2019 at Windows on Washington, a venue in St Louis, Missouri, after meeting through mutual friends. He had proposed earlier that year on a family trip filmed for television.
The ceremony was shown on 'Braxton Family Values', the earlier WE tv series centred on Trina and her sisters, and the marriage was later followed on 'The Braxtons'. It brought together Trina's sisters Toni, Tamar, Towanda and Traci Braxton, along with their mother, Evelyn Braxton.

Support After Gabe Solis's Death
Before Scales, Trina was married to Gabe Solis, father of her sons Eric and Caleb. They divorced in 2015, and Solis died on 20 December 2018, aged 43, after cancer. Trina told Entertainment Tonight in 2019 that Scales 'really helped me through it'.

Family Statement Requests Privacy
The representative's statement called Scales the 'beloved husband of Trina Braxton' and said the family wanted privacy while mourning. It added that the family appreciated thoughts and prayers.
TMZ first reported the time and place of Scales's death, citing people close to the family. He was 58.
