Two men have been arrested after a 21-year-old woman was stabbed to death near a horse sanctuary in Essex.

Officers were called to the scene following reports of an argument between a man and woman near Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society, in Basildon, on Friday (3 July) night.

Police found the unnamed woman had been stabbed several times. She was flown to hospital but died hours later from her wounds.

Police said a knife was recovered from the scene in Pitsea Hall Lane.

Detective Chief Inspector Marina Ericson said: "This is a tragic incident where a young woman has lost her life in horrific circumstances.

"We have arrested two men and our enquiries are continuing today but if anyone does have any information that they think may help us then I would urge them to get in touch with my team."

Two suspects, aged 22 and 20, both from Basildon, have been arrested in connection with her murder.
