Bates Motel season 4 episode 2
Norman's madness threatens Norma who fails to secure a medical insurance in order to treat her insane son A&E

After a terrifying premiere, Bates Motel will return with another chilling episode titled Goodnight Mother. The focus of the episode will largely be based on Norman's (Freddie Highmore) insanity and his bitter relationship with his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga).

A sneak peek released by A&E hints at a fierce fight between the mother-son duo. Highmore's character thinks all the people he loves are being killed by his mother. Though in reality, it is he who impersonates 'the mother' and kills Bradley, Blaire and, in the last episode, Emma's mother Audrey.

"I think you killed Bradley Martin (Nicola Peltz) and Blaire Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy) because you're jealous of both of them, and you are trying to blame me," an enraged Norman tells his mother on the dinner table. "You're trying to pit all on me and have me locked up. Well, I'm not gonna let you do that!"

The official synopsis of Goodnight Mother also talks about a huge "Norma and Norman face off as they suspect each other of horrible actions."

In the previous episode, Norma failed miserable when proposing to Romero. She urged him to marry her for the sake of medical insurance that will help her offer better treatment to her psycho son. However, Romero is quick to deny the uneasy marriage proposal and asks her to find some other man.

"She makes some really unexpected choices sometimes, and that was certainly one of them," executive producer Kerry Ehrin told TV Line about the awkward decision made by Norma.

"It's hard for Norma to put herself out there in a truly vulnerable way and say, "Hey, I like you. Would you please do this for me?" It's all the stuff that's going on underneath the scene that's incredibly amusing, because they do both like each other. And they're afraid of it," she added.

However, Ehrin also hinted that Farmiga's character is a go-getter and will achieve her goals if she decides on it. "As you know, Norma is a warrior. When she needs something to happen she'll go after it."

Bates Motel season 4 airs every Monday on A&E network.
