Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg
Woody Harrelson will reportedly be coming back, hint Zombieland writers, but what about Jesse Eisenberg? Columbia Pictures

The original film may be approaching it's seventh anniversary, but horror comedy fans will be pleased to learn that Zombieland 2 might be seen on the big screen after all! While promoting their latest movie, Deadpool, on AMC talk show Geeking Out with Greg Grunberg and Kevin Smith, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that a sequel is still very much in the works and that they're actively looking to reprise some of the original characters too.

"That is breaking news that we're on Zombieland 2 right now," the writers told the co-hosts.

"We're sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited."

Back in April, a potential logo for Zombieland 2 was glimpsed in a presentation of upcoming titles given by Sony Pictures at Las Vegas' CinemaCon, so it's not all that surprising to learn that plans for the movie are still out there.

What is exciting however, is that while Reese and Wernick only mentioned Harrelson by name, the fact that they also dropped in "all the cast" into the conversation suggests that fans will see Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone.

In the same interview, Reese and Wernick also opened up about the 2009 movie, revealing that well-loved Ghostbusters actor Bill Murray wasn't their first choice when it came to a cameo role. The pair said not only did they try asking Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kevin Bacon before Murray, they actually asked Star Wars' Mark Hamill and the late Patrick Swayze too. While it remains to be seen whether they'll convince one of those names to show up in a new movie, one thing's for certain, audiences definitely won't be seeing Murray reprise his role as a a member of the undead in the follow-up...
