Android One devices in India start receiving Lollipop update in a weekly phased roll-out
Android 5.1 Lollipop release date confirmed for HTC One M7 GPE, Nexus devices to follow soon IBTimes UK

Google's forthcoming Android 5.1 Lollipop update returns to the spotlight, as a HTC official has confirmed its release date for March on a spate of devices including the HTC One M7 Google Play Edition (GPE).

According to the latest tweet by Mo Versi (HTC Vice President of Product Management), Google's next Maintenance Release will arrive in March, which will also feature the capacitive buttons light-bug fix for the One M7 GPE.

The official confirmation comes in response to a follower's query about the probable fix for the light-bug on the One M7 GPE.

With the HTC One M7 GPE rumoured to get the Android 5.1 update in March, it is ascertained that other GPE devices as well as the Nexus line-up could also receive the new update around the same time.

Furthermore, the fact that Android 5.1 features only minor bug-fixes and performance enhancements over its previous release will add more credence to the existence of another major Lollipop update, Android 5.2, in the making.

This theory is further strengthened by recent Geekbench reports that show Android 5.1 and Android 5.2 updates running on the LG Nexus 5 in single-core and multi-core performance benchmarks.

According to Android Geeks, various Android One users (in Indonesia and the Philippines) who recently received the official Android 5.1 OTA firmware have reportedly confirmed that the new update changes the behaviour of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles, wherein the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options now feature a drop-down menu for data functions instead of accessing the same via the Settings menu.

As the new Android 5.1 update is being rolled out in phases, it may not be available for all Lollipop running devices at the same time.

However, Google Nexus and GPE devices are expected to be the first among all Android devices to receive the latest Lollipop update.
