Bayern Munich registered a 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates in the first leg of the Round of 16 tie of the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Toni Kroos's 54th minute strike from outside the box gave the visitors a lead just after the start of the second half. This was then followed by Thomas Meller's late goal, which saw the treble winner take a 2-0 lead into the second leg. Mesut Ozil and David Alaba missed a chance for their sides to score from the spot kick in the first half.

The north London club have a huge task ahead of them for the return leg as they need to score at least three goals and at the same stop Bayern from scoring to progress to the final eight of the European competition. The return leg will be played on March 11 at Allianz Arena.

The Gunners were down to 10-men after Wojciech Szczesny was given the marching orders by the referee. Twitter users, including both Arsenal and their rival fans shared their views regarding the game on social networking site.

Anyway that's the rant for today! Thought Arsenal did well and disturbed BM for 30 mins! Difficult thereafter!!

Blaming Ozil when Wenger's transfer inaction means he had to play a kid up front vs Bayern who's NEVER scored for Arsenal? Ridiculous. #afc
