Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who will be seen in the feature film reboot of the popular 90s TV series Baywatch has been teasing the film's cast and has dropped subtle hints with regards to filming, to keep rumour mills churning.

The WWE star, known for his promotional gimmicks and elaborate posts on social media now believes that the swimsuit-clad lifeguards are as impactful with their tasks as superheroes. He went on to term the Baywatch reboot as the official "Avengers of the beach" – "minus all the cool flying around".

The Rock spoke about his role as the saviour lifeguard in the R-rated adaptationof the TV show, and posted images on Instagram from his latest photo shoot. Johnson captioned his picture as: "We are the bad ass Rated R squad."

He declared how the team was putting together a "truly one of kind, never seen in the history of Hollywood campaign."

"This look will be plastered all over the world on giant billboards, posters, sides of skyscrapers, cruise ships, jumbo jets, women's locker rooms and Vin Diesel's garage," the Fast And Furious star said about the photo shoot.

Apart from Johnson, Baywatch also features Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Jon Bass. A possible highlight of the film is Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who has already created a place for herself in Hollywood with her FBI-thriller Quantico. Directed by Seth Gordon, the film also stars original star cast including Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff.

While superheroes are something we generally associate with Marvel and DC, Johnson's claims would only be proven after the film hits the theatres on 19 May 2017.
