Big Bang Theory season 10
Sheldon and Amy in The Big Bang Theory season 10 CBS

~ WARNING: Huge spoiler alert! ~

The Big Bang Theory season 10 ended on a cliffhanger. A big moment lies ahead for lovebirds Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler that will change their relationship status in the upcoming season.

In episode 24, titled The Long Distance Dissonance, while Amy was away at Princeton for a 3-month research fellowship, Sheldon's old admirer Ramona Nowitzki returned to create a little chaos in their long distance relationship. While Amy feared that Sheldon may ditch her for the tall blonde, the physicist remained completely oblivious to Ramona's motives until Penny explained it to him.

When he confronted Ramona about it, she kissed him. Sheldon then promptly walked out of his office, took a cab straight to the airport and got on a plane. He knocked on Amy's door in Princeton and got down on one knee holding the ring he has had since Season 8.

He asks, "Will you marry me," as the show ends with the scene. Will she say yes? How will she react to knowing that he proposed after another woman kissed him? Showrunner Steve Molaro has explained how the romantic cliffhangers will affect Sheldon and Amy's relationship in The Big Bang Theory season 11.

Molaro spoke The Hollywood Reporter about Sheldon's mindset while popping the big question to his girlfriend. He said, "The week before the finale, Amy told him that she's going to Princeton for at least three months and that helped him start to think about where he is in this relationship. That was already on his mind and then once we introduced another woman sniffing around that helped crystalize things even further."

When asked if Amy will say yes, the showrunner maintained, "I don't know what's going to happen but any viewer would imagine she would – but we, the audience, know what propelled him there. It's an interesting situation and I'm excited to see how it turns out."

He also addressed that fact that Sheldon kissing Ramona may impact their relationship, going ahead. Molato explained, "It might be! We were careful to keep Sheldon an innocent bystander in all this but another woman being the impetus? If I'm Amy, I'm not sure how I feel about that. She knows she loves Sheldon and he's here in front of me... but it's a really interesting situation."
