After months of rumours, teasers and anxious anticipation, Blizzard has finally revealed Overwatch's newest hero at BlizzCon 2016. Sombra, a cybernetically-enhanced super-spy, was introduced with a short film titled, Infiltration.

The reveal marks the conclusion of Blizzard's elaborate, months-long AUG, during which the developer dropped hints and clues about its new "powerful infiltrator."

Set in Volskaya, Russia, the new video (embedded below) shows the stealthy Sombra - as well as existing characters Reaper and Widowmaker - breaking into a military base and attempting to eliminate a mech-building target.

Sombra however, seems to have some other plans in mind.

The animated short shows off Sombra's host of skills including the ability to hack and disrupt enemies and security systems as well as teleportation and invisibility powers.

Released in May, Blizzard's newest IP is a competitive first person shooter in which players select who to control from a large cast of characters with unique abilities. It has been a massive success for the developer. Activision Blizzard recently announced that its popular new hero-based FPS was the company's fastest title to hit 20 million registered players.

Having worked on the character for quite some time, Blizzard describes Sombra as a hacker who is a member of Mexico's Los Muertos gang and works with the evil Talon organization.

As an Offensive character, the "world's greatest hacker" has a variety of interesting abilities and weapons at her disposal.

Sombra's main weapon is a machine pistol: a fully-automatic gun that fires quickly to take down enemies at a short range. By tossing out her translocator beacon, Sombra can immediately return to the beacon's location while it is still active.

Sombra's "Hack" ability allows her to hack enemies and temporarily disable their abilities. She can also hack first aid kits to render them useless for opponents and prevent them from healing. By using her Thermoptic Camo, Sombra can become invisible for a short period of time during which her speed is boosted as well.

Sombra's ultimate ability is called EMP which unleashes electromagnetic energy to disable any enemy barriers and shields, and hack any opponents caught in the blast.

At the event, Blizzard also announced a new desert control map called Oasis, a new arena map dubbed Ecopoint: Antartica and a new Arcade gameplay mode featuring 1v1 and 3v3 game modes. All three will be available for PC players to try out on the Public Test Region (PTR) server next week. They will be released for PC and consoles sometime soon, while the Oasis map is set to release in December.

Overwatch is available now for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
