Fashionistas turned out in force for the British Fashion Awards.

Representing Britain, Victoria Beckham, Sarah Burton, Stella McCartney and Alexa Chung dazzled the night as they won coveted honours at the prestigious event held at the Savoy Theatre.

For mother-of-four Victoria Beckham, who won the award for Designer Brand of the Year, the honour was an emotional event. Victoria, nominated for her third BFA, was unable to hold back the tears after she beat fellow fashion giants Stella McCartney, Burberry and former Gucci and YSL director Tom Ford to land the award.

"I'm so sorry for crying. This is really rubbish of me," sobbed the former Spice Girl. "I am so nervous, this means so much to me," The Sun quoted her as saying.

Looking posh in a gothic black backless gown, Victoria collected the award from U.S. designer and close friend Marc Jacobs. Thanking her team, her parents and her business partner, the 37-year-old also paid tribute to her husband, soccer ace David Beckham. "Without David, I wouldn't have had the courage to do what I am doing," the style icon said, according to The Guardian.

Stella McCartney, daughter of Sir Paul, was presented with the Red Carpet Award after her catwalk dresses experienced high demand from VIPs and celebrities. American actress Kate Hudson, who handed the award to her friend, shared an anecdote about the 40-year-old designer.

"Stella designed my dress for my first and only Academy Award nomination in 2001," Kate said.

"The day after, I woke up with a hangover, no award and a place on every worst dressed list in the world. I called Stella and we laughed our a**** off. She said, 'Let's be honest babe, it was the hair.'" Since then, Kate said, with a smile, Stella has kept her in the stellar league of those best dressed at celebrity events.

The biggest winner of the night was Sarah Burton, who designed Kate Middleton's bridal gown, as well as her sister Pippa's maid of honour dress, for the Royal Wedding in April. As the creative director of Alexander McQueen, Sarah was awarded for being the Designer of the Year.

For the second year in a row, Alex Chung received the British Style Award. The TV presenter, who wore a Christopher Kane dress and Charlotte Olympia heels to collect her trophy, thanked all the designers in attendance.
