Overview

The Goiania Arena is hosting a fight for the second time after the opening bout during the UFC Fight Night between Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson on 9 November, 2013, which was won by Belfort after a head kick in the first round.

Condit was an interim UFC welterweight champion after Canadian Georges St-Pierre decided to take a break from the sport in 2013. The 31-year-old will be hoping to seal a victory during the UFC Fight Night 67 on Saturday.

The American returns after an absence of 442 days, following a knee injury suffered during his fight with Tyron Woodley. Condit will be looking to bounce back from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a win over the "Pitbull".

Alves is fighting in his homeland for the first time since the fifth pro bout against Carlos Alexandre Pereira in March 2003. The veteran has taken part in only one fight this calendar year, which ended in a victory over Jordan Mein at Las Vegas on 31 January.

Top 10 ranked welterweight Matt Brown has publicly expressed his desire to take on the winner of the fight between Condit and Alves in the Octagon.

What they say

Carlos Condit: "A win over Thiago would be definitely good on my resume. He's always been a top guy in the division and even though he's not ranked high right now, just because he was out for so long with injuries, I think a win over him will put me right back in title contention. Maybe one more fight, I get somebody tough, and then maybe another title show."

Thiago Alves: "I'm ready to put on a show and make a statement and get that W; it's definitely a big moment. Every time you headline a UFC show it's a big moment in any fighter's career. I'm just blessed enough to be able to headline a show here in Brazil."
