Chris Brown Demands 'Receipts' After Journalist Claims He Is 'Actively Abusing Women to This Day'

Chris Brown has challenged Andscape Senior Writer David Dennis Jr. to provide evidence after the journalist claimed the singer is 'still actively abusing women to this day'. Brown made the challenge in Dennis Jr.'s Instagram comments after the journalist questioned why Brown continues to receive strong support from fans despite his history of legal issues.

The dispute followed a video Dennis Jr. published on his personal Instagram account last week, in which he offered his perspective on Brown's fan base and the reasons supporters continue to back the singer.

Dennis Jr. discussed the idea of guilty pleasures, comparing the way some people enjoy 'trashy reality shows' without making excuses for them. He argued that Brown's supporters should be similarly open about why they continue listening to his music.

'Sometimes when I think about Chris Brown fans, you ask them, 'Hey, why do you like Chris Brown?' And they say things like, 'Well, he only brutally assaulted Rihanna two decades ago when he apologised for it,' Dennis Jr. said.

He then said fans do not acknowledge that Brown is 'still actively abusing women to this day and kind of never stopped'. Dennis Jr. argued that supporters should acknowledge if they value Brown's music more than what he described as the singer's mistreatment of women.

Brown responded directly in Dennis Jr.'s Instagram comments, challenging the claim.

'Hey brother: can you show me where I'm actively abusing women to this day. NOT ALLEGEDLY, NOT I HEARD. CRIMINALITY IS PUBLIC INFORMATION WHEN YOU ARE CONVICTED OF SOMETHING!' Brown wrote.

He then asked Dennis Jr. to provide 'receipts' for the claim, specifically asking about abuse charges involving violence against women and convictions 'currently and over the last 17 years'.

Brown also said Dennis Jr. was 'clearly misinformed' or believed headlines without facts. He asked the journalist to show him the charges and convictions he was referring to, before ending his response by saying he hoped the exchange would help with Dennis Jr.'s journalism.

Dennis Jr. replied by asking Brown whether he had 'never laid a finger on or harmed any woman in the past 17 years not once not a single time'. He also asked whether 'every accusation and restraining order' was false.

The exchange brought the distinction between allegations, restraining orders and convictions into focus. Brown specifically challenged Dennis Jr. to identify convictions and current abuse charges, while Dennis Jr. questioned Brown about the wider allegations and restraining order history referenced in his response.
