Back in December 2025, reports indicated that the singer and rapper, D4vd, who gained popularity on his song Here With Me, is 'likely' to be indicted in connection with the murder case of Celeste Rivas, following reports that he had been tagged as a suspect a month before the indictment rumour.

D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, has been closely associated with the death of 15-year-old Rivas, as her severely decomposed remains were found inside the trunk of a Tesla parked in an impound lot in Los Angeles, which was registered under the singer's name. Rivas had been missing for a year when she was found on 8 September 2025.

Before the discovery, a foul smell emanating from the Tesla was reported by the impound yard employee, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.

It has been more than five months since Rivas' remains were found in the trunk D4vd's Tesla, and many are questioning why the Romantic Homicide singer is not yet behind bars, despite an indictment rumour that circulated two months ago. Netizens have expressed disappointment over the slow-moving case, continuing to weigh in on the situation.

Netizens Left Disappointed in Celeste Rivas' Slow-Moving Case

A Reddit user recently expressed disappointment over the slow progress in Rivas' case and the fact that the rumoured indictment of D4vd in connection to the death of a 15-year-old teenager has yet to materialise.

Reddit user Linsorks posted with a title 'Expect to see arrests in February my ass,' they wrote: '3 days till the month is over (or 4 not sure If this is a leap year) And still. No arrests. No official court hearings. No public toxicology records. Unknown cause of death. And still, no Justice for Celeste.'

'Honestly.. it's been too long. I doubt David will ever see the inside of a holding cell let alone a prison,' they added.

The user also claimed that a 'vast majority of people on social media' are now convinced the singer is innocent, adding people believed that 'His manager did it (yes, check the comments on posts related to David — the number of people believing in his innocence is absurd). His comeback is only a matter of a few PR stunts.'

He also questioned the teenager's family's silence on the case, they wrote: 'Why is the family of Celeste so quite? Why is no one pushing any actual charges in a case as high profile as this? What the hell is going on?'

Netizens' Weighed In

His post has gained attention with many sharing the same sentiments. One wrote: 'I agree with you and I'm tired of being optimistic.'

The OP has replied to this, guessing that Rivas' family 'probably settle it with money outside of court', adding that D4vd has the financial capability to do so.

They also reiterated the silence of the family's victim, writing: 'The family is too damn quiet for people who want justice. I don't even think they care at this point because they knew of the relationship and did absolutely nothing about it. They were okay with a payslip to shut their mouths and I don't see why they'd skip out on a big settlement this time too.'

They added, 'Hate to point the blame at the family but everyone in Celeste's life failed her miserably. This is the most preventable death of all time. It's not like he knew her for a month or two.'

This was echoed by another Reddit user calling the guess 'good.' They said, 'I really do think her family seems like the type to take the money and move on,' adding, 'Also yeah I don't get why they've been so silent, they aren't fighting for justice at all.' Even comparing Rivas' family to other families who been through a similar situation.

Meanwhile, one user remained optimistic with the case and provided a timeline, 'You will most likely not see an arrest until the spring and a trial at best start in winter this year but most likely early next year.'

'This happens with many cases, I promise you. His lawyers and team hope and rely on everyone giving up and not talking about the case. Don't do it,' they added.

Why is D4vd Still Free?

Ultimately, the most likely reason D4VD has not yet been arrested is that the Los Angeles County Grand Jury has not reached a final decision regarding an indictment.

This delay is heavily influenced by the Medical Examiner, who has yet to determine the official cause of death for Celeste Rivas Hernandez—a crucial piece of evidence needed to establish criminal culpability beyond the mere 'concealment of a body.'

Furthermore, the legal process remains at a standstill because the court has likely not heard from all key witnesses; specifically, the singer's family members are currently fighting subpoenas to testify, which has prevented prosecutors from presenting a complete case to the grand jury.

Recent Update on the Case

In terms of the most recent update on the teenager's murder case, there are actually major developments.

First, is that, the singer's family was subpoenaed to appear before the Los Angeles County grand jury to testify in relation to the case of the teenager.

D4vd's family has attempted to block the summons from the grand jury through filing habeas corpus petitions in a Texas court, arguing that their due process rights were being violated. However, those petitions were recently denied, requiring them to comply.

On top of it, a shocking footnote that reads, 'The underlying case is The People of the State of California v. David Burke,' was buried in the habeas corpus petition document, which was revealed by Fischer.

According to legal experts, this could mark the beginning of a criminal case against the 20-year-old singer. Months after the discovery of Rivas' remains, justice might be near for her.

Moreover, before this shocking footnote, Neo Langstone, D4vd's close friend, appeared before the grand jury, and his testimony reportedly lasted only 30 to 40 minutes following his arrest in January.
