Manchester United Goalkeeper Refuses to Throw in the Towel After Latest Setback

Manchester United Goalkeeper David De Gea believes that his team can still win the Premier League despite being ninth in the table - seven points off the top four and 13 points behind leaders Arsenal.

David Moyes' side have struggled in the start of the season after losing 5 games and draw four in just 15 games. The last week has been especially tough for the Red Devils with Everton and Newcastle beaten them at Old Trafford.

De Gea is upset about what happened but he is confident the club can turn the situation around as soon as possible.

"To put it bluntly, it's going to be a big task, but we'll keep fighting to the end. We will try to be there or thereabouts, as we should be," De Gea told Spanish Marca.

"The team is not playing well, especially at home. We've lost two games on the bounce and failed to score in both. We need to start winning, because the teams from the top are escaping from us."

"We have not been up to scratch, there's no hiding that. We're struggling to create clear chances in the opposition box and when that happens the other team take advantage. We have to keep working hard and improving," he added.

De Gea, who played for Atletico Madrid before moving to Manchester, believes that the Premier League is much more open than La Liga and in England every team have chances to beat the other. Indeed, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea also failed to secure three points during last weekend.

"In England the league is more competitive. Any team can hurt you".

The Spaniard is currently enjoying his third season at Old Trafford and after he struggled to be Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice during his first 18 months at United but is now firmly the number one for David Moyes.

"Personally I feel good; I'm really happy and brimming with confidence. It's great to play regular. Now I want to keep learning, improving and helping the team".

However, he is aware his chances of going to next summer's World Cupare slim, with Iker Casillas, Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina are ahead of him in the Spanish team.

"I try to play as well as I can to force myself into international contention, but I know I've got my work cut out. All players dream of going to the World Cup, but I know I'm up against some hugely experienced, top goalkeepers".
