'The Investigation Went on for Months': How Did David Harbour Keep Working With Millie Bobby Brown?

Actor David Harbour spoke candidly about his relationship with his 'Stranger Things' co-star Millie Bobby Brown. The actors have started working together again, despite controversies surrounding Harbour's alleged behaviour during the production of the hit Netflix series.

Harbour and Brown will be reuniting for an upcoming TV series, the title of which has not been revealed yet. It will reportedly follow a disgraced FBI agent returning to the force after his daughter, who joined the force to follow in his footsteps, is kidnapped. Emmy winner Jack Thorne, who worked with Brown on the 'Enola Holmes' movies, wrote the script.

David Harbour Puts Accusations of Bullying Millie Bobby Brown To Rest

Before Harbour and Brown reunited to work on their upcoming TV show, unverified accusations were put forth accusing the 'Thunderbolts' actor for bullying his co-star during the run-up to the 'Stranger Things' series finale.

'There were pages and pages of accusations,' a source revealed, per the Blast. 'The investigation went on for months.'

When speaking to Variety about these accusations, Harbor was 'bewildered', calling the timing of the story a 'weird thing' that 'came out in a weird way.' Despite these allegations, which did not contain sexual assault, both Harbour and Brown still seemed to be willing to collaborate with each other.

When speaking about his continued collaborations with Brown, Harbour said, 'You'll see more of me and Millie — 10 years wasn't enough. There is a special bond there. I love her. She loves me.'

Brown maintained that her co-stars in 'Stranger Things' had a united front and prioritised their bond over everything else.

'We've been doing that for the last 10 years. I mean, we have always been united in that,' the actress explained. 'We love this show with everything, and we value our friendship more than anything.'

Brown spoke highly of Harbour, saying it was exciting to 'come back together.'

Harbour Opens Up About His Mental Health

Following the accusations, Harbour's public image had taken a turn for the worse.The actor had skipped celebrations for the 'Stranger Things' finale. When interviewing Variety, Harbour was frank about what he had experienced.

'I had a breakdown,' he said, 'I do suffer from some confusing stuff — it's confusing as hell. I think a lot of people have a friend or a brother or a co-worker that deals with mental health stuff, and they're probably pretty confused when that person gets depressed or gets manic or has an episode.'

Harbour was an alcoholic until his mid-twenties, and has been sober ever since. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 26, and while he has been candid about his mental health struggles, he is tired about how discussions of the topic have played out online.

'There's a lot of irresponsible nonsense going on out there,' he told Variety, referencing an incident at the 2026 BAFTAs where Tourette's campaigner John Davidson involuntarily shouted a racial slur. 'That poor guy with Tourette's and that unfortunate situation — we're either going to acknowledge that mental illness is a thing or we're not. We can stone everyone to death if you want!

'Under times of extreme stress, that can cause somewhat erratic behavior, and it's embarrassing, and I'm ashamed of it.' Harbour continued. 'It's not something I choose, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I do feel like, for some of us, our gifts are inextricably linked with our illnesses. To have a nervous system that reacts to the world in a too-delicate way can allow me to have that moment that I love on the swings with Jason. But it can also force me, in moments of extreme stress, to act a little weird.'

Despite everything, Harbour is moving forward with not only his upcoming TV show with Millie Bobby Brown, but also the next Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster 'Avengers: Doomsday', playing as the Red Guardian, a disgraced Russian supersoldier turned Avenger.

Superhero role aside, Harbour clarified his intentions as he continues his career. 'I'm not trying to make myself look good or look heroic,' he told Variety. 'I'm just trying to tell you a story that I feel like might be valuable.'
