What Is on Elon Musk's Bedside Table? Followers Notice a 'Trigger Missing' on His Replica Handgun

Elon Musk drew questions about a replica handgun on his bedside table when he posted a bedroom photograph on X, with followers noticing an apparently missing trigger.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss shared the image with the caption 'My bedside table.' The handgun sat among another pistol replica, drinks and a Buddhist ritual object. One follower wrote, 'I'm worried about this gun... Trigger missing.'

The photograph gave followers a view of Musk's bedroom through the objects within arm's reach of his bed. Although he keeps much of his personal life private, he shared this collection with a brief caption that named the setting without describing the individual pieces.

The handgun appeared to be a model of the Diamond Back .357 revolver, a fictional weapon from a cyberpunk video game. Its design takes the familiar form of a conventional revolver and gives it a futuristic appearance. Fans of the game recognised the reference among the belongings pictured beside Musk's bed.

Both weapons in the photograph are non-firing replicas.

The other is a replica of George Washington's flintlock pistol, displayed at the back of the table inside an open wooden case. An image of Emanuel Leutze's painting Washington Crossing the Delaware appears inside the lid, providing a backdrop to the model.

The painting depicts the future US president crossing the Delaware River during the American Revolutionary War. The flintlock replica and its case form a historical display, while the revolver draws on a fictional design created for a video game.

Replies went beyond identifying the objects. One follower responded to the photograph by writing, 'Dang. You never cease to amaze.' Another expressed concern, commenting, 'You worry me, you are in my prayers.' The apparently absent trigger was among the individual details that attracted attention in the responses.

Four open cans of caffeine-free Diet Coke were scattered across the table alongside the weapons. Musk has previously spoken about his fondness for Diet Coke, but it was the caffeine-free version that caught some followers' attention in this photograph.

One user joked that their grandmother was the only other person they had known to admit to drinking caffeine-free Coke. The cans were among the everyday items visible in the bedroom image, which also showed a standard bottle of water close to the collection.

Musk later returned to the post with a comment about how the drinks were sitting on the surface. 'There is no excuse for my lack of coasters,' he wrote. That follow-up addressed the table itself, while other users had focused on the replicas and his choice of soft drink.

The water bottle appeared alongside the four cans, with both types of drink sharing the space with the display case and video game handgun. Also tucked among the items was a Vajra, sometimes called a Dorje, a ritual object associated with Tibetan Buddhism.

The Vajra carries symbolism connected to both a diamond and a thunderbolt. The diamond represents qualities such as indestructibility, while the thunderbolt is associated with irresistible force. The object's religious meaning sits apart from the historical reference in the Washington display and the fictional origins of the revolver.
